That's right, other than take a few deep breathes and relax. Take a jog, watch a movie, get a bite to eat, or start reading "War and Peace".
Nothing is perfect. Everything has some fallibility to it. But I'd say, for every one-post person that complains about not getting their snipe in, there's probably a 1,000 or 10,000 that do. Like Steve says, leave a 8+ second lead time. If it's an item that you will kill yourself over if a snipe isn't placed, than place an obnoxiously high proxy bid.
I've only had one snipe not go thru. I was watching the auction, and 5 minutes before close, ebay died. I'm not talking intensive care. I'm talking deceased.
Also, check out InstaMail and give AS your credit card # when your freebies are gone.
