GOOD QUESTIONS:

>> ok i want this but I'm actually bidding against myself << - No argument from me - I agree with both of the statements you made there.

>> The bid history makes me look like an idiot << - Well, no. Not an "idiot". An impassion buyer, yes. It's obvious you want it. One of the bummers when you proxy bid, is that both the seller and other buyers know that. The seller might use that to his advantage to shill (but less likely on a reserve). Any competitors will also know that. All in all - bad deal to proxy bid. (Actually, I wrote up some text about recovering proxy bidders if you would like to see it - but you have to promise me you have a sense of humor - which you look like you do).

>> Should I write to the seller asking what is his gosh darn price! << - You could - sometimes that works, but I think most of the time it doesn't. If the seller wanted you to know his reserve, he probably would have listed it. They would much rather you over bid the reserve, so that if another bidder comes in, one of you will pay more money.

>> Any suggestions! << - This is what I would do if it was me (since it's not, then it won't bug me if you do something else). The auction is 3 days away. STOP BIDDING! Eek Big Grin Eek Two things might happen: 1) Someone else will reach the reserve for you; 2) Others will think you've given up. Both of those are good things.

If you decide to stop bidding, determine the MAX you are will to pay for this and place that as a snipe. You can always come back and increase your snipe amount, but try to avoid getting caught up with other proxy bidders. Right now it's at $29.50. If you think your max is $34 - use that. If later you decide it's $37, change it. We've all done it (at least I have). If you decide that what you have already bid is your max - then no harm in walking away.

>> the only problem is that these issues have been up for bid a few times << - That's good to hear. It means they'll probably be auctioned again - and maybe cheaper.

P.S. It's only at 14 bids, but once it reaches 30, a little "Hot Items" icon gets attached.
No I have no sense of humor. I enjoy pain. I watch for hours on auctions I have no interest in just to see people sniped and then i send the second bidder an e-mail saying "you loose" you loose" ha ha. Seriously yes I'd like to read your bit on recovery from proxy bidding. where do I find same?
In any case I have to go now so that I can endlessly click on" items I'm bidding on " to see if any other sucker has bid. lol. Seriously I will be back later to find out where I can find your insane scribblings. ps why doesnt this thing have a spell check?

Not sure. Probably it's something the forum service doesn't supply.

Mark,

If you ever decide to take up proxy bidding, try the following:
1) Count to 20 Mississippi's (or if you're in a hurry you can use "MS" - we can also provide you with area codes and zip codes, but "Mississippi" is still my personal favorite).
2) If that doesn't work, come back here for some counseling. We can do one-on-one (most week days this place is quite), and we even have group therapy sessions.Big Grin You're choice, but since this chapter of P.A. (Proxoholics Anonymous) doesn't have many members, the group therapy sessions aren't as productive. The reason we don't have many people return to being proxoholics, is once they see the effectiveness of AS, they rarely return to their old ways. There's also Prox-Anon for family members of proxoholics.

(WARNING: pay no attention to me when I get like this - it's just something for Mark's and my entertainment.)

Mark,

You have no idea how tempted I am to leave a post discussing counseling, especially the "Phd type" (not directed at you). But, I'm afraid to have more fun with the counselor topic. Thanks for telling me that. Of all the people I left that post with; it turned out to be someone with your credentials. It's a small world.

Till the next time.

Rick Smile

P.S. How did the "used magazine" auction go?
What your usually "here"???

Your a machine then right?

No life other than helping poor old auction snipers? Ummm, in-ter-esting, v-e-r-y in-ter-esting!!

You remind me of the "Help" guy in the recent remake of 'The Time Machine'!! You know that guy in the glass, in the caves!! LOL

So I guess you'll be around for another million or more years from now then, eh? Smile

Mark,

Good for you! I thought that would be your wishes. You're about to be introduced to a "stalker". I know - hard to believe.

Who would have thought, although it was suspected? Well, on the bright side, it will provide some humorous stories for family members, peers, and friends.

This is obviously a good time to stop placing proxy bids. The irony of all this is unbelievable. There couldn't be another forum that could have all this intrigue.

A "stalker" is someone that will bid on anything you bid on. They take it to a personal level.

I'm stamping my feet, i didnt get the pun, I love puns, highest form of humor! Tell me Tell me! In any case thanks for all your help although I must admit that AS didnt help. After studying the bids AS refused to enter my bid saying that " It had not met the reserve price. A second sight did place my bid and put me over reserve. I will continue to use both services however as the Other cost me $6.99 per month and AS is per auction. In any case thanks again, i'll have more opinions soon! PLus WHAT IS THE PUN LOL Confused Confused Confused
