Hey, all. I see you're all quite enthusiastic about AS so I'm giving it a try tonight. Big Grin The thing is the item is very rare and I want it badly (like we all do).

So I want to ask some questions to have the best outcome possible...

1. How small is too small in terms of lead time? I see many successful 2's around here, but the recommended lead time is 5. Can someone tell me what the chances are of a 2 failing? I want to be sure my bid will go through in time, but also I want to try to make sure I outbid any other lurking AS'ers. If it comes down to a 50% chance of a 2 going through or a 100% of a 5 going through, I'd rather 5.

2. What happens when two AS'ers, or perhaps more, are going at it head to head with the same lead time? Will the winner be due to luck, or will both AS'ers outbid each other 'til one's maximum is surpassed?

Thanks a lot guys; respond ASAP and wish me luck! :P

Sodfather... WELCOME to the forum.

Personally (it's up to you) I'd go with 5 sec.

It's not the last bid that wins, it's the highest !

Bidding on AS is just like bidding on eBay except for the timing. Both are proxy bids. Bid the MAX you are willing to pay. The perfect bid is the one you are happy to pay that much. If you get it for less, great, if you lose, you should be OK with that because you didn't pay more than you were willing to spend.

Don't bid an even dollar amount. Add a few cents, just in case of a tie. ( 50.12 instead of 50.00 )

Best of Luck to you, and let us know how it worked out.

I'm an 8-seconds-man. On Sunday evenings, with so many auctions, I know I have to have more staying power so I'll go for 12 to 15 seconds. On exact quarter-hour (:15:00, :30:00, :45:00, 00:00) I'm at my maximum effort of 20 to 30 seconds. That's about the most I'm willing to put into it.

(posting pictures on your 1st post - )

Sodfather - I like that.

...and WELCOME to the forum.

My default lead is set to 9 seconds which I'll lengthen up to 19 secs on occasion.

Just remember, it isn't the LAST bid that wins, it is the HIGHEST bid that wins. Just remember to set the highest bid you are willing to pay in your snipe. It doesn't matter how many bidders or snipers -- when the dust finally settles, ebay will award the item to the highest bidder! That's the way auctions work! Wink

Why just tell you what it means when you can learn some Latin?

Quis, interrogative pronoun: who?
custodio, custodire, custodivi, custoditus: to guard
custos, custodis: guard
ipse, ipsa, ipsum, intensive pronoun: himself, herself, itself, themselves

So we have:

Who will guard the guards themselves?

Too much information. Smile

Umm....err....do I dare lower the tone of this thread???

ohhh....so tempted!!!

I am stepping away from the keyboard

Too late, we all know what you're thinking. I'm disappointed in myself that I didn't catch that before you. Razz

And now...Drum roll, please...

I won that auction like no other. No problems at all, AS zoomed in on it with a 1x10^23X scope and sniped it up real nice. Smile I will definitely remember this place every time I use eBay.

Thanks again guys. Smile Perhaps I'll try sticking around here a little longer.

Sodfather,

Let's say I'm a very paranoid/cautious Latin and wanted another level of guards?

Congrats on the win. https://community.auctionsniper.com/infopop/icons1/icon14.gif

You missed the quote's point: no one guards the guards themselves. That's the power of the quote, don't try to get silly with Latin rhetoric!

Just playing. Smile

P.S. I wonder if you can define your bidding lead in inches? Razz
