Hi everyone:

New to Auction Sniper. I've been reading that it's a good idea to add 10-15 seconds or more to your lead time when auctions end on the hour, half, or quarter. I'm planning to bid on an auction that ends 41 seconds before the hour. Therefore, would this auction qualify to have more lead time added on to it (how close in seconds to a quarter hour increment before this rule should apply)? In your experience is this more effective than using a low lead time and letting AS bump up your bid time if it feels your bid won't be submitted to eBay in time?

Hi Bodrey;

I've never felt it necessary to add anything to the 5 second default that I've always used on AS.

I understand that if the auction is ending on Sunday evening (US time), and on a quarter hour, some would recommend an additional 'cushion' because eBay slows down due to volume, but this has never been an issue with my bids.

I'm content to miss the occasional item rather than worry about tweaking individual snipes. So far, if my bid's been high enough, I've always won.

There isnt a need for 30 second lead times. We already adjust peak period lead times for you. Although if you'd like to feel safe go ahead and use 30 second lead times on any snipe that ends within 10 seconds of any quarter hour. Other than that they arent needed.

The recommendation from AS is to increase your lead time. The biggest bummer is to not have a snipe placed, and that usually happens when the lead times are too low (under the recommended values).

Hope this helps. How did you hear about AS?
