Hi. I'm new so I hope you'll bear with me on this question. I read on Ebay that they monitor bid cancellations. If I understand the way this works, Ebay is not aware of my bid until AuctionSnipe puts the bid in based on the lead time I specified. In that case I will either win the bid (if my maximum is high enough to be successful)or I will only become an unsuccessful bidder as far as Ebay is concerned. I don't want to build up a record of excessive bid cancellations with Ebay. Do I have this correct?

Bidding and then losing is one thing.

Cancelling a bid is something completely different.

When you cancel a bid you are retracting it so the item's price reverts back to the next higher bid or the starting price if there were no bids.

Bidding and retracting can have several 'advantages' - a high bid could put off other bidders allowing the retractor to bid lower at the end of the auction and win. Or, you could bid high to see what the winning bidders max is, retract the bid and then snipe slightly higher to win!

Of course, both these actions are frowned upon, hence eBay's stance on cancellations.

So go forward with confidence - ebay likes winners and losers!

musicfreak, The way I read your question, Yes, you are correct.

eBay does not know about your snipe until it is actually placed, seconds before auction end. You may cancel a snipe at AS as many times as you like. eBay will be none the wiser.

Note: You will not be able to cancel or modify a snipe at AS during the final 2-3 minutes of an auction.
