Just signed up and I'm bidding on a computer I REALLY want.

The bid increment is ten dollars. I put as my maximum bid $1311. Is that the right way to do it? If there's a proxy bid that goes up to $1310, will I out bid it? Or do I have to make my maximum bid $1320, keeping it in-line with the bid increments?

I'm going to do the snipe at five seconds, because it's a Friday night and that's what default was when I signed up.

As I understand it, the AS will bid one bid increment above the highest bid with five seconds left in the auction, unless the highest bid at that point is already above my maximum or the proxy bidder is set to go higher than my maximum. Correct?

Also, my AS account says "ready" next to my auction. Does that mean it's set to go and I don't have to do anything else?

Thanks!!!

$1000 to $2499.99 - bid increment is $25. Your snipe would need to be $1335 to beat a high bid of $1310.

I'd recommend an 8 second lead time. Lots of users are happy with 5 and less, but if you're sniping something very important, make it 8 or more. Ebay slows up at different times. AS tries to compensate, but they can't always make the correct adjustment. Help them and yourself with longer lead times. For Sunday evenings (prime time) and auctions that end exactly on the hour or half hour (very heavy traffic) you should use longer times. On Sunday evening auctions the members recommend 15 to 30 seconds, and for hour or half hour ending auctions AS recommends 20 to 25 seconds.

"As I understand it, the AS will bid one bid increment above the highest bid with five seconds left in the auction, unless the highest bid at that point is already above my maximum or the proxy bidder is set to go higher than my maximum. Correct?" - Correct

"Also, my AS account says 'ready' next to my auction. Does that mean it's set to go and I don't have to do anything else?" - Yes.

Also, check out "InstaMail" on "Modify Account".

AS will place a snipe at what ever amount you specify. ebay will determine, based on bid increments, the amount of your actual bid. The rest of what you said was correct, but you sound like you have a handle on it. I think we're saying the same thing.

Thanks for helping.

Yes, the increment indicator will increase.

John - Don't know if you saw this, but Sniper Sara B. (AS support) posted this on 4/16/03 at 12:17 AM:
"We bid from 3 locations throughout California, all with different backbone connections to eBay."
