Say I was biddin on something, and then I got outbid. Then I set auctionsnipe to snipe it for a dollar more a second before the auction closes. There's still a chance that the other bidder bid again, let's say 2 dollars more. So my snipe wouldn't be high enough. Does auctionsnipe detect the highest amount that the bidder is willing to pay or only the current amount he is bidding.

IE: you bid higher than the current bid, but right away you are outbid again. Sorry I'm new to ebay.

Welcome to our forum!

The best way I can explain it to you is AS is like a one time proxy sent at the last possible moment. It is important to remember to bid your snipe at the most you are willing to pay. The highest wins, always. One second would be scarey to me! I use 8 seconds and it has always worked. Some use 5 seconds. On busy times like Sunday 5:50 to 8PM PST, and on the hour, half , and quarter, I add 10 to 15 seconds. Hope this helps. BTW, As only places the snipe, Ebay does the rest!
Hi and WELCOME.

>Click Here< to learn about Proxy Bidding on ebay. In the first paragraph there is also a link to a test auction where you can play at bidding to learn how the process works.

The max amount of the winning bidder is kept secret... from everyone. Only the winning bidder know what their max is. Only enough of your max bid will be used to get and/or stay in the lead. AS sends your max bid, and it's eBay that does the proxy thing.
I just saw a neat trick that I'd have missed if it wasn't for AS.

A widget comes up now and then. I beat person 'A' using AS

A new widget gets posted. 'A' bids immediately at the opening price. It's a slightly better widget so I set my snipe to a coupl of pounds higher than the last one. And wait...

Suddenly, AS tells me that I've been outbid. I get onto My Snipes and see that person 'B' has placed a bid higher than my snipe, beating 'A'.

However, when I go to eBay, 'B' has withdrawn his/her bid and it's back to the opening amount with 'A' in the lead.

The Auction has an hour to go. I now know what 'A' has set his/her max to and have adjusted my snipe accordingly (I want that widget!). I guess the only risk I have is being outsnipped by 'B' so I've added a bit to take it over his/her's withdrawn bid amount.

I guess 'B' was being a bit sneaky but thanks to AS I'm in with a chance of winning! Wink
