My bid is for $29007.40. The Ebay high bid is currently at $28,000 with required increments of $100. If no other bids occur, will A.S. place my bid at $28,100 or the maximum bid amount of $29007.40?

Also, if I choose to increase my bid amount prior to the snipe bid launch time, how do I do this and what is the latest moment in time that I can modify my bid amount?

Lastly, is there a effecient way to get answers to these simple types of questions without posting or using the FAQ section which does not help at all (that I can tell) with these issues?

Thank you for your time in response.

Eric,

"If no other bids occur, will A.S. place my bid at $28,100 or the maximum bid amount of $29007.40?" - AS will place a bid for $29007.40 (impressive snipe). ebay will determine what your high bid will be. If, the current high proxy bid is truly $28,000 (how do you know it's not more?) then ebay will make your bid $28,100 ($28,000 + $100 increment).

"Also, if I choose to increase my bid amount prior to the snipe bid launch time, how do I do this and what is the latest moment in time that I can modify my bid amount?" - You can change your bid from "My snipes" page. Click on "Modify" next to each snipe. You can modify up to 2 minutes before close of auction. After that the snipe is queued.

"Lastly, is there a effecient way to get answers to these simple types of questions without posting or using the FAQ section which does not help at all (that I can tell) with these issues?" - I find the faq very helpful, but are you looking at the one on the "Help" tab at the top? The faq at the top of this page is for the forum. Also, the "search" at the top of this page is quit helpful.

Good luck.

Thanks again for your response.

Follow up, so if the opposing bid is really higher than $28,000 and they are using ebay "proxy" with a max of $30,000 but the bid doesn't go any higher than 28k until my snipe bid of $28,100 is posted, what is the likely course of action that ebay will take?

Will their ebay proxy come back against my snipe bid of $28,100 and post a bid of $28,200?

Will ebay run out of time to post the next bid given a 15 second lead?

Will I be out of time if their proxy takes it to $28,200 after my snipe?

Help me to understand the variations please.

Eric
Eric;

"Follow up, so if the opposing bid is really higher than $28,000 and they are using ebay "proxy" with a max of $30,000 but the bid doesn't go any higher than 28k until my snipe bid of $28,100 is posted, what is the likely course of action that ebay will take?" - In your first example you said you would be bidding $29007.40. With that snipe amount, and if the high proxy bid is actually $30,000, then the closing price, assuming no other bidders, would be $29,107.40 (your $29007.40 + $100 bid increment), and you would lose.

"Will ebay run out of time to post the next bid given a 15 second lead?" - Don't understand the question, but if you asking will a snipe still allow ebay to increment the closing price before the auction ends, the answer is yes.

"Will I be out of time if their proxy takes it to $28,200 after my snipe?" - Sorry, don't understand the question.

With the size of your bid, I'm assuming you've had some experience on ebay. Is that correct? If you have, then you must be familiar with proxy bidding. Is that correct? Well, think of AS as a service that places your proxy bid. They just place it a few seconds before the auction closes. There's really no difference between what you would do on ebay and what AS does for you, other than lets you spend less money.

Does that make sense?

Eric

P.S. You might want to snipe something that doesn't cost much, so as to see how it works before you snipe 29 grand.

Eric,

You seem to be asking about the time it takes ebay to increment ending prices. It's automatic. ebay doesn't do one increment at a time. At the same time your $29007.40 snipe is place, the price goes up to $29107.40. After your snipe, another bid could be accepted by ebay, but it would have to be at least $29207.40 (current price of $29107.40 + $100 increment).

Also, AS will only place one snipe (the full amount that you specified). It will not place incremental snipes, if that is your question.

I don't know about anyone else, but the thought of a $29,000 snipe causes my hands to sweat. Big Grin

Thanks Rick.

I apologize for your confusion related to my questions but I am glad you went on to add additional info as those responses answered the questions I was asking.

As for my prior experience on EBAY, I have none. This will be my very first purchase.

As for my comfort level with the auction item/dollar amount, I am comfortable with it.

You seem to not be and I don't understand if that is related to the dollar amount, insecurity about buying using A.S. (I doubt it) or EBAY (I doubt it) or buying large dollar items online in general. PLEASE, help me understand your concerns to insure I am not missing something here.

Again, thanks for your time in response.

Eric
More importantly, Eric, you appear to be still thinking in terms of proxy bids. The point of sniping is to make ONE and only one bid, to make it count by placing it in the closing seconds of the auction and to make it the absolute most you are willing to pay.

Like Rick, I cannot even imagine bidding $29,000 on anything in this world, but even at that level, the premise is still the same. A true sniper does not think in terms of making additional bids at varying amounts; he does not concern himself with the amounts others are bidding; he simply decides what the absolute most is that he is willing to pay and sets it. If he wins, great! If he loses, oh well, he was not willing to pay more, anyway.

Sniping is helpful because many, if not most, people do not actually bid their max. They allow themselves to bid higher and higher, constantly reacting to other bids. The price is driven higher and higher--often higher than any of the warring bidders had originally intended to pay. With AS this is far less likely to happen, as no one sees you coming.

Make one bid and make it count! Red Face
Eric,

"You seem to not be and I don't understand if that is related to the dollar amount, insecurity about buying using A.S. (I doubt it) or EBAY (I doubt it) or buying large dollar items online in general. PLEASE, help me understand your concerns to insure I am not missing something here." - After I left that comment, I was thinking that was a mistake. I've never placed a 4 digit bid/snipe, let alone a 5 digit one! I got very nervous because I didn't want to screw up my response and give you some bum advise. That's a lot of bucks! Contrary to the email I keep getting - SIZE doesn't make a difference, at least to AS. Big Grin

"As for my prior experience on EBAY, I have none. This will be my very first purchase." - You've never used ebay!? This is your first bid!? Your using AS (which took most of us months, if not years to find)!? Your first snipes is $29,000!? Man! You don't waste anytime! My hat's off to you. Wink

Sorry for spooking you on the amount. Frown

Thanks Chatter.

I was able to learn the information you posted by reading some other posts prior to making my own but thank you for your time in response as well.

Having understood what you described prior to arriving at my bid amount of $29007.40, I believe my bid and the intent behind it are in concurrence with your advice, i.e. the dollar amount listed above is in fact the highest and best price I am willing to pay and no more.

I hope to buy it for $28,100, or $100 over the current high bid amount listed on ebay.

So I think I've approached this, in this context, correctly. If you do not agree, please let me know.

Thanks again.

It does sound like you are ready now. The only reason I explained what I did in my previous post was because in your earlier posts, you had asked two questions. One was how late in the auction you could increase your snipe and the other was if you would run out of time to post another bid after one was posted with 15 seconds remaining.

These did not sound like true sniping at work, but apparently now you are indeed all set. Let us know how it turns out. You could set a record for the highest bid by an AS user! Cool
