It's neither. It's our own program that we wrote. It's a handy little browser for surfing and bidding on eBay and the ability to create your own tabs will let you do all sorts of things. Basically you could create your own tab for any page or bookmark that you frequent often for instance. i.e. you could have a PayPal tab etc.

Is the new browser Windows XP Pro compatible? I get an error message in InstallShield Wizard during Copying new files:

"Error 1931: The Windows Installer Service cannot update the system file C:\WINDOWS\System32\hhctrl.ocx because the file is protected by Windows. You may need to update your operating system for this program to work correctly."

What is this file? Is the install overwriting an existing file, and why? Is the problem that I'm not logged in as Administrator?

Thanks,

Boyd
That is an HTML Help, thus the HH in the name, file. It is part of Internet Explorer.

Ignore the error and continue the install. It works fine. I dont know why that error happens.

Try closing all web browsers and doing the install just after rebooting your computer. We have and tested it on Win XP here and it works fine. The error is annoying I agree though. We have done it several times and I dont know if we've found a combo yet on XP that makes it not happen.

Thank you

I really like the concept of a Snipe Browser, but I'm not sure this one is ready for prime time yet. With no documentation that I could find, I really hesitate to mess with some of the aspects for fear that it will mess up my current browser/bidding habits. For example, the Favorites seem to be my current IE favorites list, but there is no particular reason for that in a Snipe Browser and it is not clear what will happen if I add locations. In SB, the navigation is a trifle wierd. If you do a search on eBay items and look at one, back does not go back to that list as it would in a regular browser. Please provide some documentation and discussion of features and idiosyncrasies. This seems to be about 80% of the way to a very useful program. Thanks
I have a question on this sniper program. Why is it so slow? I mean a lot of time I have to push a button to refresh, add a snipe ect to get the program to refresh. Is it usually this way? If not what is causing the program to move so slow?

Sometimes I have better reaction when I use IE or netscape.

Just wondering. I love the program if only it was faster on the reload and adding.
Boyd - Try logging in as Admin. Close all other programs and try to install. Your problem is most likely because you're not admin and *.ocx files are typically system files.

Howard - A lot of browsers use the same location to store short cuts nowadays. If you add one with the Sniper Browser, it will be available in IE also.

For myself, I wish I had been made aware that it required the .Net services from MS...there's a 20 meg download on my 56k. Make sure you have enough drive space on your C drive. .Net only installs to the system directory and needs ~ 50meg. My install failed due to lack of space and now I have to download it again....crap!

Oh well, I can't complain...my first try at sniping got sniped by a higher bidder, but the second one worked like a charm!

Thanks AS!
Kevin
Are you sure this is a new browser? It looks more like a standard wrapper on the IE engine complete with all the problems we know and love.

If it is a different browser, anyone know what engine it is using (surely they have not written a new one)?

Stuart

PS. Hello everyone - just joined and used the service to win a bid for me. Neat.
okay, my first two "official" snipes today (for those of you that don't remember, i had manually won some ebay auctions a couple of weeks ago as prices went above and beyond my max AS bid, but AS claimed each of my wins as an AS win and effectively burned away by 3 free snipes), so my comments:

1) i'd been watching for a Jeep cargo cover during the last 3 weeks, and auctions for about 4 or 5 of them mature every day . . . anyway, i'd picked my max (it's different for each of them because the s&h varies immensely), and each day they'd get bidded higher than i wanted to pay so i'd just let them go on by . . . finally, today, one of my outstanding AS bids hit (like a lure landing a fish) . . . so, yeah, it takes a little patience, but at least AS helped provide the discipline from getting involved in any of the bidding wars, and i didn't even need to hang around the puter

2) second item i won (class 1 bluetooth USB adapter) was one that i'd been watching for about 5 days, and like the cargo cover some had come and gone beyond my AS max . . . anyway, i happen to be at the computer this evening as one i had an AS bid on was maturing, so i figured that i'd "watch" it like i normally do when i manually snipe ebay auctions . . . while there is still the "rush" as the auction winds down to 0 seconds, there is NOT the personal pressure of "having" to make the right bid at the right moment, knowing that if i'm too early it lets others get a final bid in and if i'm too late then the auction has ended . . . so there is still the "thrill of victory & agony of defeat" without the pulse-pounding anxiety of possibly messing up

overall, AS helps make the auction aspect of ebay a little more methodical and business like, which might take some of the "fun" out of it, but which will also put back in some of the economics "logic" (thinking about Spock) into my auction bidding.

regards, Steve
