ok what is an acceptable time to wait before leaving negative feedback?i very rarely have a problem,but this $7.25 item has cost me retaliatory negative feedback because i didnt think 27 days after payment was made and the item still not shipped was acceptable.the one reply i got said that the holidays and him having to ship a lot of packages out was the cause for delay,but i paid on dec. 15th and his total feedback was something like 53 not all as a seller either.so i dont see a lot of packages going out.then i got a nasty email after i reported the non shipment to paypal and he says now that he has shipped it on the 13th...a full 29 days after payment.

I do agree that it looks like you got the short end of the straw, he could of simply emailed you to let you know there would be a delay.

I am a regular seller and buyer on ebay and have only left 2 negs so far, and I see yours as just, especially if you tried to email him to find out what was going on ?

To answer your question, NEG FB is a situation by situation judgement with me.....if I have had some response from the buyer/seller, then I hold off a while before doing anything and keep emailing them. If I havent heard from them at all in 2 weeks I start proceedings via ebay chanels, if by the time I have completed all the ebay requirements, I havent heard from them - they get a NEG.

It's tricky - I'd have left neutral rather than negative in this situation as it looks like your man was communicating rather than ignoring you and you did get your item eventually.

Or, you could even have left positive but said somting like "[i]great item but took one month to arrive[/]" - it would be a callous seller who would neg you in response to that.

Don't forget that you can respond to his feedback on your account, or, if he has been offensive, get it removed completely.

IMHO, some buyers, especially newbies, expect eBay to run like a business 100% of the time.
It's not like that - most sellers are just selling a few items, they have computer problems, full-time jobs, holidays etc so it is not always possible to send stuff quickly. When I sell and I have a delay, I always inform the buyer as to what is happening. This usually keeps things sweet!

I just had this problem last week. The seller could not provide a valid tracking number, so PayPal gave him two other options: refund or replacement item. He had one week to respond to these options, or PayPal would issue the refund themselves. He hemmed and hawed, but then issued the refund at the eleventh hour. Eek

I have had a few bad experiences on eBay, none of them worth the risk of bad feedback. If I get screwed, I follow eBay procedure: attempt to make contact, keep a record of attempts and replies, file any necessary help forms with eBay and AuctionSniper, make any necessary inquiries with my credit card customer support. In almost every case, I have received as much satisfaction as I am likely to get (i.e. refund) by following procedure and by not leaving bad feedback. The worst thing I've suffered is not getting my shipping costs back. That's not a big enough deal for me to risk getting retaliatory feedback. Especially since my appeals on the matter failed. If I gave bad feedback, I would be leaving myself open to criticism, because the seller followed procedure also.

If you are being treated badly by a seller, if you've followed procedure and have not received the item or a refund, and if you have left bad feedback and received retaliatory bad feedback, you can appeal to eBay to have the bad feedback removed. In very specific cases of abuse of the system, especially when the buyer has followed procedure and the seller has been abusive of the buyer, eBay has removed bad feedback. If I were you, I would look into that immediately. There may be one or two steps you have to complete before they're ready to help you. You may have to wait until all other avenues are explored, and until they determine that you are not going to get the item or a refund, ever. But patience is the only requirement for buyers who act in good faith. In future, before leaving bad feedback, think of your options. Leaving bad feedback almost always leads to receiving bad feedback. The exception is the seller who leaves good feedback before the transaction is complete. However, these are usually not the worst sellers.
29 days seems plenty long enough to me. I'd certainly leave a neg.

fwiw ... I've left a neg only once in my 5+ year eBay life, and didn't bother to follow "recommended procedure" that one time. Seller advertises a "newly remastered" cd "with bonus tracks" that is "in great shape". I get the 1980's original cd with crappy sound, without bonus tracks, scratched to hell, wrapped in a single piece of copy paper, in a broken jewel case, and of course he charged me 4x the actual shipping cost. Well, @#$% you too, mr. seller! No warning, I just wacked him. Retaliatory negative or not, that was a BS deal from start to finish.

Don't be a hothead, but don't let yourself be pooped upon, either.
I'm not suggesting anyone's done anything wrong. It depends on what's important to you. I need feedback clear of negatives, because I deal with a lot of people who require money orders, which are difficult for me to get quickly. When I ask if I can send a personal check, a few hundred positives and no negatives are very helpful. When someone treats me badly, I hammer at them with emails, letters, calls until I get what I want. If you submit fraud forms through ebay and AS, lazy sellers can suddenly become very cooperative. Luckily, I've never had to face a seller so bad that I'd feel guilty NOT sending a negative. All I know is, sending a negative is an invitation to receive one, but without negatives, how would we know who to avoid?
