Snipe will be placed. AS still has to place your snipe, unless you cancel it. You used the service, so you pay the fee. You can use AS as a backup, but you're still using it, and what you use you pay for.
Qualifier:
If your AS snipe isn't higher than your proxy bid, then you won't see the AS snipe on the bid history. But since AS still TRIED to place the bid, and if you should win the auction, AS will still charge you. You're either a sniper or a proxy bidder. You choose. But AS will still charge you for any auction that you win that you asked them to place a snipe - even if the snipe wasn't the high bid. And remember, you have to cancel a snipe at least 2 minutes before closing, and that's cutting it close.
