need bid timing advice

to our AS forum!

In my opinion, no! Between 5 and 8 PM PST,Sunday, I will add 10 to 15 seconds to my snipe time(I use 8 sec, normally) and also if it ends on the hour, half, or quarter. These are usually busy traffic times on Ebay.

I have changed my lead time to 23 seconds.
I have a large max, compared to current bids.
It's as much as I want to spend.
I hope that other bidders' maxes will need
adjustment upward when my snipe occurs and that
23 seconds will be insufficient time for them
to do so.

I find Friday works for me. Besides it sounds right "Feelie Friday".

Have you tried Fridays? they may only work for me

on a sunday 5pm if i am home, i would manually snipe. manually snipe your last bid in 10 seconds, or better if you feel more confident - really this depends on how comfortable you are in your manual sniping abilities. personally i'd do it manually, seeing how the algorithm by AS seems to snipe a little too early for many people's preferences.

in general i have all my snipes set at 2 seconds, as i assume an AS sniping bid at 2 seconds even when placed early should be placed before an AS set bid of 23 seconds. then again i'm not totally sure how AS works so that may not be true. in any case good luck on your auction!

offering me something he claims to be equivalent
to the item I am bidding on for about 2/3 the
current bid. Have you ever encountered such
a thing. Maybe another bidder trying to
distract me?

I believe that is technically against ebay rules. Every time anyone sends a message to a seller, the page warns about just that sort of thing. I guess they don't want off-ebay business, for which they get no fees, generated from the ebay site at their expense.

Anyway, even if you weren't concerned about ethics, you would need to consider the ethics of the other guy. How can you verify his item and offer, what his shipping will be,what kind of feedback does he have etc.? Without going through an ebay transaction, you have none of the usual protection,so seems too iffy to me. Just my opinion.

Tell them you will send payment as soon as the item arrives. Bet they won't care for that deal. I'd stay away unless I had prior experience or dealings with them.

2/3 the price but shipping from taiwan is probably rediculous. if they are us military at an apo/fpo location it may not be too bad - they ship via us postal rates from varying points in the us (ie. if they are stationed in germany you pay postage to new york)

Maybe the Taiwan guy is not so bad after all. (See how we get in trouble?)
