I have pondered this question for sometime about the EB bidding process...the last seconds of an auction bids will show up that were NEVER seen before the last seconds and have a date that reflects DAYS before other bids:
Example is "divabhm":
winner n3stm US $74.00 Sep-10-06 17:16:07 PDT
divabhm( 10) US $73.00 Sep-09-06 02:51:19 PDT
chococaty816( 10) US $67.00 Sep-10-06 17:16:03 PDT
chococaty816( 10) US $65.00 Sep-10-06 17:15:49 PDT
chococaty816( 10) US $62.00 Sep-10-06 17:15:38 PDT
chococaty816( 10) US $59.99 Sep-10-06 17:08:07 PDT
chococaty816( 10) US $57.99 Sep-10-06 17:06:11 PDT
n3stm( 20) US $55.99 Sep-06-06 18:10:04 PDT

SO THE QUESTION IS:
this person placed a bid on the 9th, are they using a sniping system??? sniping posts the last second meaning the date would be the 10th but yet the date is the 9th...HOW DID THEY PLACE A BID ON THE 9TH WITHOUT IT BEING SEEN UNTIL THE FINAL SECONDS ON THE 10TH??????

They didn’t. divabhm placed his $73 proxy bid, manually, on Sept 9 at 2:51:19 PDT. Until chococaty placed a bid, divabhm’s bid was $56.99 (n3stm’s $55.99 proxy bid + $1 ebay increment). chococaty’s bids increased divabhm’s bid to $68.00 (chococaty’s high bid of $67.00 + $1 ebay increment). n3stm’s 2nd bid (his snipe) was “at least” $74 (it could have easily been more), but it only required $74 (divabhm’s $73 proxy bid + $1 ebay increment) of n3stm’s proxy bid to win.

If you looked at the auction at any time after Sept 9 2:51:19 PDT, you would have seen divabhm’s bid recorded in the bid history, although until chococaty started bidding, divabhm's current bid would have been $56.99.

Don’t confuse a “proxy bid” with a “current bid”. A proxy bid is usually higher then a person’s current bid.

Trust me – no one can register a bid with ebay with a lower timestamp then when the bid/snipe is actually placed. If they could, that would be a disruption of ebay’s bidding process.

Happy sniping
I'm still confused by this issue.

Here's the bidding history on the item I sniped.

farmer-don US $886.00 Sep-07-06 18:58:47 PDT

eduk8or US $876.00 Sep-09-06 21:21:48

kurt4450 US $695.00 Sep-09-06 10:52:27

dsullivan57 US $651.00 Sep-08-06 09:54:55

dsullivan57 US $600.00 Sep-08-06 09:53:45

dsullivan57 US $576.00 Sep-08-06 09:53:11

farmer-don US $565.00 Sep-06-06 02:54:32

dsullivan57 US $551.00 Sep-08-06 09:52:41

dsullivan57 US $524.00 Sep-08-06 09:52:17

How does farmer-don get the final bid when he placed his proxy on 9/7 and on 9/9 kurt4450 had the high bid?? Why wasn't farmer-don's proxy put into place at that time?

2nd question... for whatever reason I got a 2nd chance email from the ebay on this item stating that the winner (farmer-don) couldn't complete the terms of the transaction and that I could have it at my last bid which of course was my high snipe bid at 876. The question I have.. if farmer-don hadn't had his proxy in I would've had it for $705 instead of $876.

Is this 2nd chance email for real? I've never gotten one before.

Could this have been a "set-up" by the seller to get the max bid out fo others just to retract the winning bid? Any expertise and opinion would be appreciated.

Thanks!
