Eartha Kitt was amazing. Only surpassed by the show I saw Petula Clark do in Vegas ... but then, that was Vegas
Eartha did an hour and a half with no break. She wiggled and squiggled enough for a 20 year old - and she's 77! Her voice is still as strong as ever - as she demonstrated a couple of times by belting out lyrics without the aid of the microphone. Then again, I get there
very early and always sit at the edge of the stage. As she was leaving she shook everyone's hand at the stage and boy does she have a firm grip! And the friend I brought, probably due to the entire bottle of wine and the vodka/cran that she drank, ran over to Eartha with my felt pen and liner notes from her cd and conned her into signing it for me
Eartha did a couple of ballads, but primarily her old standby's. She didn't sing my favorite, 'Old Fashioned Girl', but got in, 'I Wanna Be Evil!', 'C'est Si Bon', 'How Could You Believe Me?' and 'C'mon A My House!'.
It always amazes me that people will fork over the $$$ for theatre/nightclub acts and wear ratty jeans and t-shirts! Whenever I visit NYC and see a play it's just the same. Perhaps I'm just stuck in the elegence of the 30's and 40's, where you dressed up whenever you 'did the town'.
Oh ... Eartha Kitt memoriabilia is available on eBay (this is to placate all you stuffy 'What's that got to do with our forum' posters)
And Mrs. M ... I wish you were there too ... you would have had a blast! It was the bee's knees!
