Hello, Hippo. In general, AS will place a snipe even though you have already bid on an item. You will be charged for the snipe if you win the auction, even if your first bid was enough to win by itself. (This does not apply if your snipe is one of your three free snipes.)
Try to make your snipe bid your only bid. Bidding early only tells other bidders that you are interested in the item, and usually makes the final price higher. And when you snipe, always make your snipe bid the highest amount you are willing to pay. You will not win every auction, but you will win most of them. Good luck!
