Pretend that you're just an eBay bidder taking part in a Dutch auction. You're not using AS. There are ten widgits for sale and you want eight of them. So you make your bid and specify that you want eight widgits for that price apiece. After the auction ends you see that there was one person who wanted five widgits who outbid you. That person gets five widgits, of course. If your bid was next highest you'd get the remaining five widgits, not the eight you really wanted.

Now say that you're using AS and you program your snipe to bid for eight widgets (there's a window for specifying quantity on the snipe page) at such-and-such a price. AS would put your bid in at the time specified, but all other things being equal you'd still wind up with five widgits, just as if you'd bid manually. So the answer to your question as I read it is "Yes."
