Hi all,

I've been desperately trying to find some computer manuals from a seller that doesn't charge extra for Paypal, and just couldn't. In frustration I checked the eBay discussion board to see if there was anyone else with a comment about it and found that in fact, under eBay rules, you are allowed to charge extra for credit cards and Paypal if you and the buyer are in the UK!

quote:
Credit Card Surcharges
An eBay seller may charge a fee, often called a "surcharge", when accepting credit card payments, either directly or via third party payment mechanisms, provided that all of the following conditions are met:

both the eBay seller AND buyer are located in the UK (i.e. if the seller agrees to ship worldwide and the buyer is located outside the UK then the seller is not permitted to impose a surcharge);
the item's price is listed and paid in pounds sterling;
the surcharge imposed by the seller is no greater than is necessary to recover the direct charges incurred by the seller as a result of accepting that particular credit card payment (i.e. sellers may impose a fixed or variable fee, so long as the total fee charged to the buyer does not exceed the actual amount the seller incurs to receive the specific payment. Furthermore, sellers may not include any indirect costs, such as set up fees or withdrawal fees, when calculating the amount they may charge buyers); and
the seller clearly indicates in the item listing that he or she will impose a surcharge and the amount of it.

Any seller who lists an item on an eBay site other than eBay.co.uk, or who accepts payment denominated in U.S. dollars, may not charge the buyer a credit card surcharge. In the United States it is against the laws of many states, including California, and the United States' credit card association rules, for sellers to pass on credit card surcharges.

It looks like I've just got to put up with it. The books concerned are still a lot cheaper than they would be from Amazon, despite the surcharge, but it still annoys me! Mad

I believe that US Federal Law prohibits charging extra for purchases made by credit cards. The UK seems to think it’s a business expense that can be passed on to the customer. I’ve only seen one business here in the US get around this. They have closed up their business a long time ago, so guess it didn’t go over very well.

They didn’t charge extra for using a credit card. Instead they inflated their prices, and gave a discount for using cash. I guess there is a loop hole in every law.

Mornin'

Actually I don't raise any Dalmatians. It's just that's the only 'cute' puppy pic I had.

I raise Labs and Goldens for PAWS and Labs, Goldens, and German Sheps for Leader Dogs.

Leader Dogs for the Blind is... well you can tell that by the name. PAWS trains Wheelchair assistance dogs.

I take them in at 7-8 weeks old. They live with me for a year. After a year they are mature enough to be returned for formal training, and I start all over with another 7 week old pup.

Hello all!

I'm sorry I haven't been around, but winter is such a busy time for me - plenty of time to chat and read in the long summer days when the dogs are lying around in the heat, but come the winter, we're off running every weekend!

Add to that my ISP problems, and I only have time to look at my forums during my lunch break. We're ramping up for a serious network upgrade here, so I'm not even getting much of a lunchbreak either!

(All together now...AHHH! Frown)

I really admire you, Puppy - I often thought about puppy walking, but I really couldn't face giving up that puppy at the end of the year. I did think about getting one of my gang trained as an assistance dog (we have an organisation in the UK who will train disabled people's own dogs to assist them), but when you think about it, a mad, high speed husky is probably not the best idea for a shopping trip companion! Big Grin

I had better go and try to catch up - you guys have been so busy while I've been away. I'm only a "Sniper" and Puppy's already "Super"! Congrats, Mrs. M. on managing to become "Famous". Wink

PS. Remember that mating I told you all about? Well in the end it was Lupus (Volk's brother) who did the service, and it looks like the mum-to-be is expecting! She had a scan and apparently there are several little pups waving back at the vet from inside her.....Hooray!
I've always thought that one of the advantages of dogs over kids is that they don't leave home....but perhaps that's why I have so many!

Although Lupus is set to be a Dad, I'm actually going to use his stud fee to get an unrelated pup. I won't bore you with pedigrees, but these particular babies will be too closely related to my younger boys to be able to be included in future generations.

Of course I'll be boring you all with the baby photos when they all arrive. Wink

Yea, some of the assistance orgnizations have the 'to close of a relation' problem also. They take the cream of the crop and pull them as breading stock, but have to be careful about who goes with who.

They have just started experimenting with crossing Labs and Goldens. They are trying to keep it low key, as it may tick some breaders off. They don't want their 'donated' services to dry up.

You see me here, just sitting, rocking, and listening? Smile I raised 3 boys, all hunters. We always had rabbit hounds. My experience with dogs was, they go hunting, I feed them and cleaned the pens!Lol!
Of course, the same thing was true of the horses, cats, chickens, pet racoons.....hmmm, must have been I was an easy touch! LOL!
