Actually it was laying on the side of the road going into the crater, a road grater had pushed it to the side.

I was just a kid then, working in the oil patch, and had a motorcycle.

Use to go out to a little state park outside of Odessa and look for fossils, remember finding about 4 or 5 vertabre still fused together, probably dolphin. I hid them under a rock ledge and never returned.

One day was going to Big Spring Tx, stopped to take a whizz behind this rock as big as a big screen TV, maybe 4 feet across, noticed that the rock seemed to have layers on top, checked it out and it was a very large fossilized claim shell embedded in the top of it.

That kind of stuff is all over, its just that in a desert with no ground cover its much easier to find.

I live in Patrick County Virginia now and a few miles from me is a park called Fairy Stone, the name is from these cyristilized <-- Hooked on Phonics =) rocks that look like crosses. The only thing i have ever found on ebay about them are early post cards from the park.

Yep, i thought about that too... dont know much about rocks tho .. cept the ones rattling around in my head.
