Hi

I've been using AS for quite a few years but have been away for a while. Now I have used it for four items (2 items Dutch). Three out of the four hit my max bid exactly. Seems beyond coincidence. Am I doing something wrong? Does introducing a late bid (10 second - default time) cause the ebay proxy to fail?

No. A bid placed in the first 10 seconds of an auction acts the same as one placed in the last 10 seconds. There's no difference between how ebay handles snipes and proxy bids (all bid times are created equal).

If you still have concerns, you might want to post these auctions (actually links would be best) in question and your bid amounts.

AND, if my memory of Dutch Auctions is correct, they don't work the same, as far as proxy bidding.
Thanks everybody:

Region2 - I don't mind winning at my max bid. I'm accustomed to occasionally getting an auction with my max bid but this was too often, it was feeling like someone was "reading my mail".

I think I understand. As I mentioned I've been gone a while - Dutch auction's don't proxy, they just offer. So my max bid actually went in as an offer not as a proxy.

Now I have only one auction going for my "last penny offered", one that looks right, and I goofed on the Dutch auction.

Is there a porper way to "snipe" a Dutch auction? I guess is there a way to proxy outside of ebay?

You could check the forum for other discussions on this. Click on "Find" (towards top of this page), then click "Advance Search". "Dutch" would probably be the best search word.

It wouldn't be considered a proxy bid if it was outside of ebay, unless I'm missing something.

Thanks Rick, I just meant a way to produce the effects of a proxy - make repeated offers, as necessary, at min increment up to max bid.

I'll take a look under "Dutch" and do some homework. Thanks for the help I was really confused. :-)
I, myself, like to find the gizmo I want on ebay.
Then I use the left hand listing to click on
"Completed" and then at the bottom. Search.
Then you can see what they have been selling for in past auctions. I compare that with retail and gas cost to go get, etc. Then I know what I want to bid. I am cheep, Wink so I try to get items at, or about, 1/2 retail. Taking into account, shipping, gas prices to go get, etc..
Thanks

I always used 'completed' before but it took me more than a few minutes to find it this time. In fact when I went to format the search it consistantly refused to show up until I stripped almost all the other options out.

But, happy ending (except for Dutch oops) I got what I wanted at (unfortunately the highest) price I could stand.

Later
Jack
