The max bid you give AS is what they will bid.

Bidding with AS is just like bidding at eBay. Both are proxy bids.

There is a difference..AS will bid at the last POSSIBLE moment for you and only once.

That's correct. Once AS places your snipe, ebay's increments take over and will increase the closing price based on the current high bid or any other snipes placed.

i hate to say this but im still lost, mrs m, what do you mean by its my max bid???

Ok. Now let me see if I can.
You enter the very maximum amount you are willing to pay for that gizmo in the AS Max.
At the last few seconds, AS computers bid that for you to ebay.
Ebay computer then uses only as much of that $$$ that is needed to win.
You will pay no more than is necessary to win.
NOW REMEMBER. If someone else is willing to pay more, via a bid or an ebay bid, you will not win.
It still comes down to who will pay more.
The best reason for AS is to keep your amount secret and not run up the price along the way.

The price an item sells for is NOT the highest bid! It is just enough over the next to highest bid to win.

Welcome and good luck. Main thing is, if it is rare,
be sure to bid the very max you will pay for that gizmo. Be sure to bid the very max you are willing to pay. You may or may not have to shell out that much $$, but at least, your feelings will not be hurt if someone pays more. That way you can shrug it off with.. they paid too much for it.
You might want to click on the help tab, then info on "bid groups". They are great for this type of thing.
