Lost to a lower bid...

The high bid at the time was $251.01
The next bid was $250.00
I got a Proxy Outbid notification at 3:03pm
I got an outbid notification at 3:53pm
The item was won for $251.01 at 4:30pm

What am I missing here?

The bid increment for high bids that are $250 - $499.99 is $5.00. The high bid was $251.01. Your bid was $256, which was only $4.99 over the high bid. Your bid was too low for ebay to accept. The high bidder won because of the penny he added to his proxy. We always recommend making your bid an odd amount and always add a few pennies to your max. bid.

It appears you were outbid by 1 cent because you needed 256.01 to top the highest bid of 251.01...5.00 increments above 250.00. It is always a good idea to snipe an odd amount like that.

Hey James!

Coral & Mrs.M nailed it! This was an easy auction to analyze. If your snipe was for just one penny more, the snipe would have gone thru and your bid placed. If Olsk had a proxy bid higher though, you'd still have lost. The highest VALID bid is the one that wins!
