Lost item in suspicious circumstances....

I do not see anything unsusual in this auction. Assuming that you were the second place bidder, aerial100, your bid amoung of GBP 350.00 had already been bid more than an hour before by 2ev1it. Nothing unusual about that, especially since the amount was a well-rounded number. In this auction there were quite a number of relatively new eBay bidders, and it seems that round dollar bids (or, in this case, round pound bids) were the order of the day.

This is why we always recommend here that you bid unusual amounts, such as 352.36, to avoid this very scenario. In the event of a tie, the bid goes to the first bidder, hence our advice.

No one hacked; you simply require a little more experience on eBay and AS to understand the bidding system.

Based on the following, I'm not sure that's a good assumption:

AS most likely sniped, but ebay's bidding software prevent it from being placed.

Thanks for your advice . I didn't see the other bids until long after the auction even though I had "refreshed" several times to make sure I wasn't caught out by my own local cache......might my own ISP cach pages also???

I am sure that until the last minute my computer was showing 277 as the current price.

I see now that if i had got my screen properly updated I could easily have sniped this for a minimum increment above 350....aaaargh!

(I did successfully snipe a similar product 24 hours later so am happy with AS but would still like to understand what went wrong before for future reference)

I should add that I saw yesterday that two people had replied to my post here but the actual posts didn't appear on my screen until this morning about 24 hours after they were placed....and i did refresh many times to try and see them....whats going on?

This is obviusly the same caching problem that caused me to lose the auction I wanted.
