Lost a snipe!

The winning bidder placed a proxy bid two days before your snipe. Your lost was due to not bidding enough, or, another way of looking at it, someone bid more than you did.

Welcome to our forum! Remember that placing a snipe is like placing a proxy bid. It is important to bid the most you want to pay. The one that bids the most wins. The main advantage of a snipe is that you avoid a bidding war. I usually set my at 8 seconds.

AS sniped correctly for you but the winner had placed his/her bid already with a higher max so s/he beat you by one increment. As mentioned, it's not the last bid that wins, it's the highest! AS simply helps to prevent bidding wars!

Now if anybody from AS is reading this, can we please have this succinct (& for once, given its author, not rude) explanation put at the top of this section as a permanent posting. This will save a lot of future effort by Rick, Mrs M & Region2.

Not that anybody from AS ever looks at problems to be sorted mumble mumble ..............

Hey, don't worry... I'm certainly not offended. I really appreciate the help and the feedback. However, I can't quite figure out how my snipe was set for 5 seconds but 30 seconds before the end of the auction, I get the message that my bid is too low.

Your auction ended on a Sunday and on the exact quarter hour (prime time for eBay). AS placed your snipe in early to insure it would get placed. Here's some additional reading on the early-snipe subject (you might find some of the links left by that Rick guy to be helpful ):
