Losing a bid

Is there anyway to not lose a bid because of bid increments? I just lost a bid because of this and I thought it was a done deal.

Are you saying that your snipe was higher than the highest bid but not high enough?

Yes, my max bid was 275, the winning bid was 271. The next bid increment was 5 bucks. Is there a way around that or is it just tough luck?

Sadly tough luck. Always bid your max, always add a few cents/pence (12.11 instead of 12.00) so that you'll win in a tie and let AS do the work. If it's a 'must have' then bid manually.
