Hi..thank you all in advance for your response. I want desperately to win eBay auction #3614086180 which is scheduled to close this evening. I set a lead time of 15 seconds..because I read on these posts that auctions ending on the hour, half-hour and quarter hour might need more lead time. Could you all take a look at the auction and see if I'm making the right choice? I so want this item and want to make all the right choices..(with your help, of course..) I'll check back shortly..Thanks bunches.. Barb (ciao346) Smile

I'm not real keen about lady_cathy. Take a look:

http://cgi3.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?MfcISAPICommand=ViewBidItems&userid=lady_cathy&completed=1&sort=3&all=1&rows=25

Of the five items she's bid on in the last month, 3 have been for liquidatedgoods ($70 to $207 closing price, and no wins). She also seems to be fond of nibbling at liquidatedgoods' auctions. The other two of her auctions were with other sellers but under $20. She also has only one feedback and it's from - you guess it - liquidatedgoods.

If it smells like a shill, if it looks like a shill, it tastes like a shill, if it feels like a shill - well, you form your own judgement.

I smell a shill, too, but it looks as if she's pumped the price up to where the seller wants it to be. Shills are defenseless against a sniper because they don't see a bid coming until it's too late to bump it up. Eight seconds should be proof against a manual counterbid...even if the shill is guarding against a snipe bid, she doesn't know how much it'll be. Look at it this way: the last thing a shill wants is to wind up being the high bidder when the auction closes. That's why our little friend bumped up onejustforyou one increment at a time.

If you're willing to spend $71 or more (I'd recommend more, seeing that onejustforyou's max withstood all those nibbles) for a 3/4 mannequin, go for it! I'll be watching! Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

Thank you so very much for your fast reply concerning the snipe on the auction I posted. I was so caught up with wanting to win the item, I didn't even think to look that there could possibly be shilling involved. Now that I inspect the auction's bid history closer, I see exactly what you mean. Still want the item, as I'm a vintage clothing seller on eBay but I certainly will be more alert to situations like this in the future.. Wink
Service and speed are our middle name,
And competition and counts are the primary game.
We are two different birds that are kind of the same,
And we always endeavor to keep this place tame. - - [until recently]
Although neither one of us has a Great Dane,
Both of us seek our lotted minutes of fame.

Since neither of us wants to be insane,
Nor to be considered by others to be lame,
To append to this poem might start raising Cain.

So since I've taken you aways down this lane,
Let us hope no plagiarist tries to inflict pain,
Because that my dear friends, would be a shame,
And make no contribution to anyone's gain.

Fellow gladiator - maybe you'll resist posting a response to this.

I think that every post should contribute something to this forum versus something to the poster. The primary objective is to answer other members questions - do you remember when? A secondary objective is to bring something informative to others or to provide something entertaining, while not being obsessive about it. Running up a post count with a frivolous post is not in the mission statement. (IMO)
Sigh. Defeated by a higher proxy bid. Well, you gave it your max, Barb. The bid went in 13 seconds before closing. Did you set it that way or was that AS adjusting the bid time? EBay didn't seem very busy at all.

As granitz says, there are plenty more mannequins out there. Go get one...it's very likely that you'll get it for less than you bid on this one. Wink

The SAME EXACT mannequin is displayed in her auctions!!! Either it's one and the same person shilling or a team working together.

Glad it turn out the way it did. When I took the time to discover this shill, I thought it would be helpful.

By the way. You should know that the members on this forum are very helpful, and quick. We don't work for AS, but we're pretty quick to respond.

Are you satisfied with everything, so that this topic can be closed? Or, do you need additional assistance?

Pay no attention to me. I'm into icon art. I have more - if anyone is interested.
