Lead time

To place a bid, AS has to get it's computers talking to eBAYS via networks. If these are running slow then AS increases the lead time.

I use 8 seconds - 5 is Ok but 2 seconds is a bit risky.

It ended on exactly a quarter hour. Those times are often very conjested on eBay.

Especially between 10am->1pm since that is peak hours in Europe. And from 6pm->9pm since those are peak hours in the United States. Items ending on quarter hours in those time frames our system monitors eBay and also how many other customers of ours are bidding then to determine if there might be lag and we adjust accordingly.

In the item above another sniper that bid 10 seconds before you had already placed a snipe that was $27 more.

Hey Sara (she works for AS) why not have a pop up message on snipes placed on Auctions that finish at busy times to warn of these problems so that newbies aren't disappointed unnecessarily?

R2, that is a very good..no great idea!! I'm sure it would make not only happier customers, but more customers.

It sounds like a good idea, but I’m curious what Sara’s response will be. There is the issue of different heavy usage periods based on country – at least that was discussed regarding U.S. and U.K. That may also apply to some of the other sites. And, if that’s true, I wonder how that would tie into the “flags” listed on top of “My Snipes”, as I seem to remember that having had a few anxious moments in their usage to non-Yank customers.

I doubt she'll even respond - my suggestion was far too logical so AS will never use it!
