I always choose a 3 second lead time...my bid is never placed in that timeline. I won an auction a few minutes ago and again..had chosen a 3 second lead time. Auction ended 18:31:12. My snipe was placed 18:31:07....that's 5 seconds, not 3. (unless I'm missing something):]

'fraid what your missing is the fact that 3 seconds is probably too little (the majority recommend 8, more on slooooow Sunday evenings). You're also missing that 5 or 3 secs makes no difference - it's the highest bid that wins not the last bid. You might want to read the FAQs (under the Help tab) and ebay's guide to Proxy Bidding at http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/buy/proxy-bidding.html
