I don't think you are suggesting that AS can some how determine what the max bid is by placing 1 snipe. So, I'm assuming that you are suggesting that AS place multiple incremental bids up to your high bid.

Say you give AS a 5 second lead time, when should it start placing those snipes? What if it had to place 20 snipes? How long would that take? 5 seconds wouldn't be enough.

What if at the-3-seconds mark you're high bidder, but someone comes in at .1 seconds and outsnipes you? How is AS suppose to start incrementing an unknown number of snipes with .09 seconds left?

There wouldn't be enough time to do what you are suggesting, if that is what you are suggesting.
Hi Q258 Smile
I agree totally with Rick - but I just wanted to answer the first part of your question.

Why does sniper jump right to my max bid amount?

AS (Auction Sniper) wont automatically jump to your max bid - it only does this if that is NEEDED to win the auction. If there is no competition for you on that auction you will win by the next bid increment. If there is competition (which there seems to be for you) AS will bid what is required to win.

Sounds like you have been winning so its doing its job very well Big Grin

So essentially AS does what you are suggesting - it bids the minimum amount required to win and saves what left over of your maximum snipe. Just like Proxy bidding.

Hope to see you around the forums some more Smile

This question displays a misconception that a lot of people have about how bids are handled.

Ebay will only make you pay as much as you need to pay to beat the next highest bidder (or the reserve price, if there is one)

So, if you bid $1000, and the next highest bidder is at $5, then your bid will only be $5.25 or so- NOT $1000. It will only be $1000 is there is another bidder who has already bid up to that level.

Therefore, AS really only needs to place one bid for you- it really wouldn't matter if they placed 30 or more incremental bids- it wouldn't change the price you ended up paying for the item at end of auction.
