It doesn't matter anymore.
I've used the "Buy it Now" option.
It was good deal as it is.
Perhaps the problem was because
item was in another country?
Or maybe because I was sniping/entering
dollars instead of UK pounds...

It's not the currency - AS works in any currency by just bidding numbers (ie. no conversion involved).
I've used AS to buy from America, Canada, UK and Germany with no problems and never seen that error message.

Of late, eBay has allowed "auctions" which are not auctions at all, but rather "Buy It Now" only item(s). That's probably why no bids were allowed -- you have to buy it now or forget it.

It was a set/fixed price format.
That is the reason why AS did not
work.
