I'm bidding on an item whose reserve is not yet met. I've set up a snipe, but want to know whether AS will place my bid above the reserve price.

AS will only place one bid - your full snipe amount. If that reaches the reserve, and if you are top bidder, you'll be sending some money to the seller.

Are you sure? I just set up a snipe with a max of $275, and it was placed at $249.40. Unfortunately, the reserve was still not met even though I was the high bidder.

Are you saying that the auction has already finished are your max bid wasnt placed and the reserve wasnt met?

The reserve must have been higher then $275. When that happens ebay will show the closing price as the amount of the 2nd highest bidder plus one increment.
You should be able to see your bid amount by looking on your "My ebay".
If this still doesn't solve the problem, consider leaving the auction #.
