Initial ebay bid via email or SMS text message??

Is it possible to set up an initial (first time) ebay bid via an email, or via an SMS text cellphone message? I am not sure about the security of doing that. I have cell phone SMS text access everywhere; but I do not have full internet access everywhere. This way I could initialize a bid, or increase a bid.

I have an SMS text message to email gateway, so that is another possibility.
