My guess: they didnt really cancel their bid, or they bid on it twice.

We dont bid on canceled items. Impossible. You have no idea how many thousands of complaints a day we'd see here if we did.

I would ALWAYS set my filter on my page to "Ready to snipe" after canceling an item and make sure to triple check the page of items that is shown to make sure the item canceled is not on that page, anywhere.

Clicking cancel doesnt mean it's canceled, you have to wait for our confirmation web page to come up and you need to make sure it's not on your list of snipes anymore. That way you know for certain that your click got to our server and into our database.

I had the same experience on or about the same date [Sunday, February 16, 2003, 12:18:43 AM]

I tried for an hour to cancel a bid - the Auctionsnipe interface merely noted "host contacted; waiting for reply." Apparently, the auctionsnipe site was down such that contact was impossible. I, too, "won" an item that I did not want and now am liable for the money.

I sent a note to support during the system malfunction, but only received a reply yesterday, with, basically, an apology (not really complaining, I have no doubt that the agreement indemnifies auctionsnipe from such occurrences).

So, Alex is not far off - while generally I am satisfied with auctionsnipe, it CAN HAPPEN that system failures will leave a bidder liable for an auction that the bidder tried to cancel.
Well yall,
I've been seeing AS, reeeeeeal slow.
Like 20+ minutes for a page to 'update items info'. See, I say there is something AS is hiding from us. I say that they are using Pentum or even Celeron 300MB chips with 5400rpm IDE drives on their servers. Roll Eyes
This creates a LAG and hurts everyone in every situation in heavy traffic times.
The idea and even the service is pretty cool. Just low budget. At least the forum is pretty cool and we can see the good, the bad and the ugly. It's all right out front for everyone.
This is a bonus in my opinion.
I'm gonna hang in there with AS until they upgrade the servers or "higher tier" (whatever that is).
Have fun. Big Grin

I keep seeing posts from support like this, stating it's "Impossible" for this to happen. Yet I keep seeing people with this problem. Sorry, it's called a "bug," and it happened to us using bidgroups.

Deleted the bid group, bid still went through, emails sent out by AS, but the bid doesn't show up in the "I won" or "Recent Snipes" listings on AS. There is clearly some type of mismatch in data in your database.

As a support person, telling customers that something "didn't happen" or "is impossible" is clearly not the way to answer the issue. A little bit of research is called for. I realize people make mistakes, but programs do also.

Please take your customers seriously, do the research, and suspend your disbelief until after you've proven how the "user error" occurred.

Of course I research it. And every time I find it to be the same thing. User error.

With your research, it would seem that this could be determined. So did they bid on it twice, or did they fail to cancel their bid? I think it would be helpful for others with the same issue to know how the problem occurred.

We are also still awaiting response on how a deleted bid group still placed a winning bid, though the "Recent Snipes" or "Snipes I've Won" doesn't list the item.

Thanks.
