I read a lot of messages about being "out sniped" now, lets say;

scenerio A

1) person A has a sniper set at 8 seconds and a max bid of $100
2) person B has a sniper set at 5 seconds and a max bid of $110
Bid incrament = $1

or scenerio B

1) person A has a sniper set at 5 seconds and a max bid of $100
2) person B has a sniper set at 8 seconds and a max bid of $110
Bid incrament = $1

in both scenerios person B wins with a bid of $101

I assume that the final 5 seconds of an auction is not enough time to see the high bid and outbid them. If two people are using snipers, unless their max bid is exactly the same why does it matter which bid is placed first?

Gimpeh, you're a little off on the final amount. At $100 the bid increment changes to $2.50 so make the final amount $102.50. (I know -- picky, picky! Wink)

In any auction, it's the high bid that wins, not the one that's placed closest to the end of the auction (unless that one happens to be the high bid). I know that there are snipers who can monitor an auction down to the last 10 seconds or so and place a "counter-bid" if they see that somebody has placed a snipe. Fine, but remember that they don't know how much the other guy's bid is for. So the counter-bid is a shot in the dark.

Personally, I think that it's useless to worry about counter-bids. If the counter-bid is higher than yours then you've lost the auction. If not, you're the winner even though you may not have had the final bid in the auction. So just bid your max and hold onto your hat! Big Grin
