Hmmm...difficult to say but I wonder if the win went to ajbennett because they had previously bid on that auction? Or maybe they had a proxy bid in at $30.00 and since it was submitted first they beat you? Or maybe eBay just puts them in alphabetical order when they come in at the exact same moment. Or maybe, as Rick suggested, they edged you out by a microsecond. This one was an interesting one!

One tip I might offer, and I believe that I am not the only one who does this, is to make your max bid a few pennies, or dollars, over the even number so that you will have a little edge over somebody else who places the same max bid; i.e.: $30.05 instead of $30.00. That way, if you both submit your max bid (they submit $30.00 and you submit $30.05) at the same time, well...you win!! Good luck!

I think they would have to had bid $31 to get the next bid increment.

Also, with more and more people bidding uneven amounts, I'm not sure that's as effective as it use to be.
