I bid $30.00 on item 2858316766 and so did the winner. We bid at the same time but for some reason I lost. Auctionsniper didn't even send me a reason and I emailed ebay but that probably won't do any good. Why did this happen?
Your snipe and and ajbennett's were placed at the same second, but ajbennett's snipe must have been a fraction of a second faster. In the case of a tie, first in gets it.
Hmmm...difficult to say but I wonder if the win went to ajbennett because they had previously bid on that auction? Or maybe they had a proxy bid in at $30.00 and since it was submitted first they beat you? Or maybe eBay just puts them in alphabetical order when they come in at the exact same moment. Or maybe, as Rick suggested, they edged you out by a microsecond. This one was an interesting one!
One tip I might offer, and I believe that I am not the only one who does this, is to make your max bid a few pennies, or dollars, over the even number so that you will have a little edge over somebody else who places the same max bid; i.e.: $30.05 instead of $30.00. That way, if you both submit your max bid (they submit $30.00 and you submit $30.05) at the same time, well...you win!! Good luck!

I think they would have to had bid $31 to get the next bid increment.
Also, with more and more people bidding uneven amounts, I'm not sure that's as effective as it use to be.
Well, my opinion is a proxy, but no matter, the end result is that the one that bids the highest soonest wins,,so again, we all say, bid your max! Also, the uneven amount advise is sound too.
No,such as a proxy for 30 entered at 3am would win over a snipe of the same amount at auction end at 4am.I meant if you and someone else had the same highest bid..the one that was entered first wins.
