so, when i enter my maximum bid when i want to snipe something, does that mean that it wont bid for me until 5 seconds until it ends at all? or does it bid when i enter it?

AS places a bid for you in the last few seconds of the Auction to minimise the ability of others to react to your bid. This is a process called sniping. You won't always win but it helps...
