Totally newbie from Italy here. I found this Site for real lucky, after some european bid wars lost with a lot of blood on the floor.

Now I'm trying this sexy service for a couple of easter auction very important for me.. so I've a ? over my head.. how much are safe 3 seconds?

I've read some posts here and I found a message where somebody says that AS dynamically adjust lead time following e.bay latency in bid processing.

So, as I guess, a 3 seconds lead is not a lot more danger than a .. 5 seconds?

I'm asking it not for paranoia.. but because I'm bidding on an item very hard to find and very $$$ and I've seen go up the price of 1000 Dollars in the last seconds.

Anycase ciao a tutti and excuse me for my spaghetti manodolino english Smile

Best regards,
Paolo

Paolo, I wish you the best of luck on the auction. I would like you to remember that it is not the last bid that wins, it is always the highest bid. When you prepare your snipe, be sure to enter the highest amount you can afford. You will only get one chance at the item, and so you want to make your best bid.

Since this auction is so important to you, perhaps you should not even take a one-in-fifty chance of your bid not reaching eBay in time. I use eight seconds and it has been very reliable.

Happy Easter to you, also! Smile
Paolo,

Steve gave you really good advice. He's gotten me into using 8 second lead times and more on Sundays. AS will adjust the lead time to compensate for delays on ebay, but there are times that ebay has "hiccups", which AS can't compensate for, because they don't last long enough.

Since you've read other posts, you must have seen people complaining about AS not placing their snipes. This use to be a bigger problem a couple of months ago. These days, it seems that ebay is running smoother. When it did happen, it usually happen on Sunday nights.

Although this doesn't happen very often, when it did, it brought out the worst in people. Some would leave very angry posts. It's usually was caused by low lead times.

So think about following Steve's advice, especially on important items.

I hope you enjoy AS as much as I do.

Yes, I know, finally is a question of bucks, not lead times.. following your suggestion I make everytime the highest bid I can afford with some added fuzzy Smile i.e. If I want to bid a maximum 2200 $ I make 2222$, so I can't be beat by a similar round 2200$ by a last time bidder. Smile

Best wishes,
Paolo
