This is the first time that I've used this program. It automatically put in ebay's max bid, but I'd like to go a little higher. Is it possible to change my own max bid?

You can change your snipe amount from "My Snipes" page. Or, are you talking about changing a bid that you already placed with ebay?
You can change your snipe amount until aprox. 5 Min. til the end of the auction. At that time the snipe is locked and readied to be sent to eBay.

When can I modify snipes that I’ve entered?
You cannot add, modify, or cancel a snipe if there is less than 5 minutes left until the auction ends. When the auction is about to end, you may notice that a lock will replace the Cancel and Modify links. In the event that you have not refreshed the page, and the Cancel and Modify links still exist for a snipe that is ending in less than 5 minutes, any changes made will not adhere. For reliability and performance, our bidding system prepares your snipes in advance, so you must make your changes before this time.
Never know which to trust, but I'd leave 5 minutes - just in case. But Serenity is correct about it being locked (excellent point!).

Suggestion: AS to put in a value of 0.00 to prevent the snipe happening unless someone changes the figure to something realistic.

What about leaving it blank like "Add A New Snipe" on "My Snipes"? 1.00 does sound like the left hand not knowing what the right hand coded.
