I recently used AS to bid on a fishing reel. The reel had a reserve price. I put my bid in a week before the auction finished with a maximum bid of £76. At the close of the auction the bidder before me put in a bid of £60 and AS then placed my bid @ £62. These bids did not achieve the reserve and the auction closed. Why did my maximum bid not work until £76 was reached or was £76 still below the reserve and it was pointless to continue ?

Wrong – check again. AS placed your snipe at your max (£76). What you are describing is the way EBAY handles reserve auctions. If the bids don’t reach the reserve, EBAY, NOT Auction Sniper, does it’s increment thingy.
