To add to Rick's answer...Ebay will only go up to your max bid if necessary it there are other bidders with max bids similar to yours. Ebay increases incrementally increases the bid price until it exceeds the 2nd to the highest MAX bid. The bidder with the highest MAX bid is the one who ends up winning the auction, regardless if they placed their bid in the first minute of the auction or in the LAST 3 seconds of the auction!

Adding 2 cents....errr...well maybe 5 cents! Wink

Jabbergah Cool
Rick is right. But, he did not finish the bit.
The ebay computer then uses only as much of that amount that it takes to win. However, keep in mind, if someone has a higher bid than you (either another sniper or a proxy bid one ebay) You will lose the auction. EG: If your max bid on AS is 25.00, but it takes only 23.53 to win, the ebay computer will use only the 23.53. However, if someone else has bid 26.50 either as a ebay proxy or as a snipe your 25.00 bid will show up on the ebay bid history, but you will lose the auction because someone has bid higher than you did (like any other auction). The main reasons for AS is to stop running the bidding price up. The ability to cancel up to 2 minutes before the auction. The opportunity to set up a bid group to take your chances on more than one auction of the same gizmo without having to try to bid and cancel the next auction etc. Best of luck. Just figure out how much you are willing to pay, bid it on AS and then sit back knowing that if someone out bids you, you at least are not overpaying for it, and another gizmo will show up again (unless it is a handmade one of a kind item). Again welcome and good luck.
keep up all informed.
