First, I'm new to this forum so be gentle. I desperately want to win an auction for an item located in France. The problem is, the seller will only ship within France.
What to do ? Can I hire a bidding agent in this situation ?

If they sell only to France, as far as I know, end of subject, unless you personally know someone there.
You might post a request to find someone in France here and on ebay.
You might try the search on your browser for a French export agent. Either way, you are taking a huge gamble.
Less with a licensed export agent but still.

I certainly would not risk such a venture!
I often buy from USA (I'm from UK but don't tell anyone) and get frustrated by "USA only" items.
BUT, quite often, if you offer to pay with Paypal and ask nicely, they will ship abroad. They usually say that it's too much hassle or they've had a bad experience in the past.
Shipping abroad is easy (in the UK, at least), the only difference is the Customs Declaration on which you write a short description, a value, tick 'gift' and sign at the bottom. Apply some saliva to the reverse and you're done.
That said, I once had a seller who would not ship to the UK. No IFs, no BUTs. Luckily, I'd done a favour for a US buyer of one of my items so he returned the favour and forwarded on my item for me. Two lots of postage but it worked!
So try this:-
1. Send a friendly email (en francaise?) to the seller asking that s/he allows you to bid and will export abroad.
2. Befriend a French Person.
3. Pay me to pop over to France to collect the item for you!
#1 might just work. Good luck.

Naaa, been there, done that too many times in this old life! I think I will pass.
Nah. I was thinking of French Polynisia on the Raddison Cruise Lines, Paul Gaugain. I could do that over agin and again etc.

To each his own, Shop. I traveled abroad so often when I worked, I don't care if I ever leave the US again...even on a cruise. Actually, I am not a cruise person anyway. Too much dressing up and eating for me.
That is why I like the Paul Gaugain, no formal nights, it is the South Pacific. Also, Windstar the same thing.

I hate the get dressed for dinner at this time and that time and stand in line..not me... at least not anymore. I just got burnt out, I think.
No standing in line. Open seating during meal hours.
Wines included with meals, etc. etc. There are several fantastic lines out there. I have been on 18 ships and if we hadn't already spent the kids inheritance, we would be out there now. So now we are grounded.
