Problem Bid #1: AS placed it yesterday, a day early, thereby identifying me as the high bidder on Ebay for 24 hrs before to the end of auction. Prior to the actual ending of the auction, my AS "Active" page showed "Bid Placed Successfully" status as while simultaneously showing the auction as having ended yesterday. Apparently also due to AS's incorrect early ending date, the auction does not appear on my "Today" page, though it doesn't appear on either the "Won" or "Lost" pages. (Seems that maybe new page option, called "Limbo," is required here.)

The "Modify" page did not allow me to change my bid amount, again showing the auction as already ended. At the actual ending of the auction, my snipe status changed to "Bid Too Low."

Problem Bid #2: Here is the REAL TRIPWIRE: Everything seemed normal w/ another snipe I placed on an item ending later today, but when I tried to modify it, I was unable to -- again because AS incorrectly showed it had ended. Fortunately, I was able to cancel this bid (at least I THINK it was canceled by AS!).

Since there is a big-ticket item coming up tomorrow that others are counting on me to put a snipe on, the timing of these problems is unfortunate. Right now I have no choice but to go register immediately w/ another snipe outfit.

I wish good luck to everyone!

MORE AS FAILURES!?!?! Confused I just joined a week ago and I have lost 3 bids due to AS not bidding at all! I posted a snipe 2 hours ago and still no bid has been posted in my name. I lost a bid 2 days ago or so because AS didn't place ANY bid at all! I had to go do it manually, and AS never kicked in after I bid manually. I see on the community board a lot of people are having this problem. I feel really bad for referring your service to so many people now and I don't know if I can trust AS anymore either. What's the problem? Also in 1 week had to post 3 problems? Not good! DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE 'MY WATCHES" thingy is? I can't find any information anywhere about it.
Confused
Yeah Bo, now I'm getting the same error message, "can't post bid, its not the minimum accepted bid, bid too low"...but when I look at the item page, its NOT too low. Its above the minimum bid. Also I was cheated out of 3 free snipes. I clicked on a box in here that said "SELLERS-ALLOW US TO ADVERTISE AT THE BOTTOM OF YOUR ITEM PAGES BY CLICKING THIS BOX AND EARN YOURSELF 3 FREE SNIPES." I did, and didn't get the snipes, wrote to them to ask what happened, they write back "why don't you tell me exactly what you're talking about so I can try to resolve the problem" as if they never even heard of this box or something. I think I'll go write to all the people I referred and tell them NEVERMIND. What a hassle this is. Its a great concept IF IT WOULD REALLY WORK!! I won 1 or 2 items with AS, but its REALLY unreliable!

Penlady,

AS is definitely having some kind of problem, but those statements seem to be a contradiction. Perhaps I’m missing something?

Confused
It’s a substitute for watching auctions on your “My ebay” page. Doesn’t cause a snipe to be placed – it’s only allows you to watch the item. Personally, I would stick with ebay for watching, as I would also stick with ebay for searching.
Hi Rick, yes I was in a hurry and "frustipated", (new word for the day), so I didn't explain that very well. I filled in the snipe information, and after a few hours, AS still had not placed a bid on the item, so I went to ebay and placed the bid manually right there, then hoped AS would kick in and continue to snipe during the night while I was sleeping. It didn't, so I lost the item. One of the items I'm sniping now is an item I have searched for since I was 16, and I just turned 46 last week. I'm not going to be able to trust AS on it...I'll be staying up to watch the price until the last minute.

At least you still have your sense of humor.

Still not understanding this. From that statement it sounds like you used a lead-time of 2 hours. I know that can’t be the case. My apologies in advance if I’m misreading your posts.

“Continue to snipe”? Perhaps I’m putting too much emphasis on “continue”, but AS only places one snipe.
Maybe I'm not understanding what sniping is then, and maybe all those who were complaining on the message boards about the same thing as me don't understand it either. I thought that when I filled in the item number of the item I wanted to win, that AS would place a bid on that item immediately to make me the high bidder, and whenever someone else bid, that AS would continue to keep bidding for me until it reaches my maximum amount that I'm willing to pay. From what I read on the message boards, thats what others think too. So what is AS supposed to do? Maybe everyone who lost bids through AS should have this explained to them too.

Just to confirm what Smart said about eBay "proxy" bidding.

You probably caused AS not to bid because you manually raised the current bid to a level above the one you had posted with AS.

What possibly happened was this:
You look at item. It shows $10. However, this is not the maximum of the existing bidder - he bid $30, but eBay is "holding" $20 in reserve until somebody else bids.

You place a $28 bid with AS. AS does nothing with it, because it will wait until the closing seconds of the auction before placing your bid.

In the meantime you panic and realise that AS has not placed a bid, so you manually place a $25 bid. Immediately eBay shows $26 because the other bidder had already placed a "hidden" $30 bid. You now raise your bid to $35 and are shown clearly to be in the lead at $31 because you have exceeded the first bidder's maximum of $30.

What you have forgotten is that you also placed a bid of $28 with AS, which when it checks the actual price, discovers that your maximum bid has already been exceeded (in this case by yourself) and so does not place a bid.

AS is working correctly, you just disabled it by placing a higher bid!

To those of you complaining of AS errors, I have not had a problem either with notification or bid placing for several weeks now. Obviously a problem, but still not a universal one.

I just checked two of your ebay ID’s, and since February 1, I can only see that you’ve placed one snipe, which I assume was thru AS. Don’t mean to be a nag, but it might be helpful for others to quantify what “My snipes” and “lot” mean. Some people are trusting AS to place bids for them, so they might appreciate that information in determining what their usage of AS will be.

Also, on your “My Snipes” page, if you click on “Balance”, you’ll see all winning snipes by month. Grant it, unlike your ebay bid history, that will only provide winning snipes, and won’t provide those where the bids were too low.

I can understand if you don’t want to go thru the time and effort. Again, just thought it might give other users a handle on things.

Thanks in advance
Naughty, naughty, Rick.

and you had been trying to behave so nicely to Shirl!

Perhaps if we had your eBay ID we could judge whether your are just a closet theoretician or a man of action?

Mind you there was a rumour going round previously that you just collected aviation orientated bakery products, but I never give much credance to rumour!

You know me, Paul. Always trying to separate fact from fantasy. Anyway, you haven't been able to have much practice lately. You know how I get without your guidance.

OK, Camera, who squealed? But, in my defense, they are limited editions.

Multiple AS accounts? I hope you didn’t give yourself as a referral for free snipes.

If you like a red X with the text “Picture of Shirl” next to it, then you’ll love that one. Maybe Camera (CAMERA! Where are you when I need you?), or someone else, will be willing to come in and provide a second opinion.

Now, I obviously don’t have anything against an avatar with a red X.
I thought it was just me Rick, but all I am getting is the script Picture of Shirl.

Just assumed it was a picture taken during a snowstorm or something.

For the record...

I have had 22 snipes placed in the last 48 hours and all went off without a hitch...I wasnt successful on 4, but thats because someone outbid me Smile

Sadly, not one item bought was for myself....what is the world coming to Confused

I’m not sure she’ll consider you a creditable source. Maybe just leaving the red X is best.

Now, that’s the kind of stats/specifics that are valuable in determining AS’ current reliability.

It is obvious by the volume of your "not caring" comments that you didn't care.

Even though you don’t care (chuckle Graemlin), your avatar is now working, assuming you planned on having one of a naked woman. (I’m kiddin - about the naked woman part)

Hey, everybody. Just imagine how lively things get when there is actually something of importance to discuss, like sniping related things.
