Hi everyone,
I'm also New here !! Just signed up...
I've used auction sniper twice so far, and won both items. I left the default time ON... not sure what it was... I found out about Auction Sniper by asking on AussieVeeDubbers forum, as I had virtually won an item I really wanted, after I bid, it said auction closed... it looked like I had won... but then it come up with someone elses name as the winning bidder..
I told one of My Sons about it and He has been using Auction Sniper for a few months and has won everything He Sniped....
I should have been using it this year AS i HAVE MISSED OUT ON A FEW ITEMS i really wANTED.....

Hello from Scone NSW Australia.. I have used Sniper 4 or 5 times now with great results.
I'm just wondering what happens if I come across [in the bidding] another sniper!! I suppose it depends on the timing.. What time is everyone using? I have been using the 8 seconds
default, I was going to lengthen it but decided against it..
One other Great thing with Sniper is that I can reduce My Maximum bid at any time..

Hi Aussie Girl,
Yes, I was missing items I really wanted and was bidding madly....
Now I just do My Sniping... and the other BEST thing is, I can change My Highest bid to a lower bid if I over reacted.....
That alone makes it compulsary for Me....
Had a brown snake try to get in the front door yesterday...then went under the house... so I was very weary of anything moving or looked like moving, or looked like a place for a snake to hide... I just hope it kept going...
I don't like them....

Yes, being able to change your maximum bid is invaluable.
Also I am sure that AS has saved me loads of cash because I'm not involved in bidding wars any more Big Grin
Ugh to the snakes......sometimes city living does not seem that bad....all we cop is mozzies, cockies, and bad attitudes Roll Eyes

If there is another sniper, then the higher/highest bids wins--same as always!

I had win 997 go this week. Cool

The highest bidder usually (there is one itsy bitsy exception dealing with increments), but the earlier your bid is placed the chances increase that your high bid will be nibbled into a higher price.

8 seconds would be tough for another sniper to respond to your snipe, but 20 seconds may be pushing your luck.
Right, Lee. You need to snipe (or why else would we be here?), but when you get down to the last ten seconds, anyone who snipes you at that point planned to snipe, regardless of what you did. And if his snipe is bigger than yours, you are S.O.L. Even if he bid two days earlier, you are S.O.L., if his bid is higher.

The reason we snipe is that most people do not bid their max; they bid just enough to make them top bidder. They are willing to bid more, and will, if you bid early enough to let them bid again. We don't, so they don't. Razz

Number 998 while I was at church today.

I would think that even a fairly unique hobby (Aussie Vee Dubbers?) draws in a large number of bidders. Unless it’s a very small community and you know a lot of the people, it’s not something that I’d worry about.

If it is a concern, then discuss it with “the gang” and see if some compromise can be worked out. Either everyone can agree that sniping the same auction isn’t personal and that it’s every man/woman for himself/herself, or agree that the person that finds it first will be the only one to snipe (or something like that). That might cause someone on this forum to say that that is illegal/immoral (collusion, or something similar), but what others don’t know won’t hurt them, and it’s better then causing hostilities amongst friends (if it would cause hostilities). I’d opt for the “survival of the fittest” solution.

But, there seems to be something overlooked. What does the gang do today regarding proxy bids? If you and a couple of friends snipe the same auction, it would seem easier to accept than if the friends placed proxy bids. With proxy bids, it’s obvious that someone is trying to outbid someone else in the gang. But with sniping, no one can claim that bidding on the same item was competitive, personal, or intentional, as no one knows about the other guy’s snipe.

Personally, I’d go ahead and tell same-hobby friends/peers about AS, but before I told them, they’d have to agree that since you are going to share a nifty service that will save them a bunch of money, that’s it’s possible that gang members will be competing on the same item, but that they should understand that it’s unintentional, and impersonal.

I guess it depends on how much of a friend they are. If I had a great fishing place, I’d share it with a “friend” (once sworn to secrecy), but I wouldn’t with someone that I just exchanged email/posts with.
No Dave , NOT that drastic!!
Just an alternator... electric fuel pump & fuel pressure regulator, Weber carby,H4 headlamps, electronic ignition and I'm looking at adding Air conditioning to the beetle also...
Took Me 3 years to find out how to do it...
It was avilable in the US but it was an ancient system back in the 1970s...
My Beetle is also an Automatic.... AutoStick..

cheers
Lee
I've bought about 100 items on ebay, most through Auction Sniper

Coupe words of advice - if you're shopping for a specific product, bid high with an odd amount. If you're bidding for value, expect to win about 40% of your snipes - otherwise you're paying to much.

I'm a bideer on Dodge Caravan parts - and if I don't get this one there'll be another next week. So I bid low, and sometimes I'm the only bidder.

If someone wants it worse than I do - thats OK

Just got a new airconditioning hose for my wifes car - I already had the other hose, for 1.00 - retail cost about 175.00 No one else wanted it that day. The list is long . . .

I'm wondering if AS can help us pinpoint phoney biders.

That's an issue with a bif I'm looking at right now . . .

Hi Dave,
No Hemmies here....
but WEBER Carby, Electronic ignition [KIT]
Electric fuel pump & regulator... plus lots of modifications to the engine to fit an air conditioning compressor.. My Beetle is an Automatic too, something rare in Australia....
There are a few Beetles down here with Subaru flat four engines, Mazda rotarys, Nissan etc, plus Ford V8 in the front, Subaru seems to be the most common.. GM V6s or Leyland all alloy V8s in Kombi Buses...

Like stuffing a 426 Hemi in a beetle? Big Grin
Hi Paul Rob,
I am getting better with MY Bidding and SNIPING,
I have found its better to snipe on items of interest, as I keep finding I've bid on something I don't really want to buy at that price... at least with sniper I can cancel My bidding at any time.... Now thats excellent information... I love Sniping... and haven;t missed out on anything I wanted, well, haven't missed out on anything at all....
I Love SN...
I am also finding that I'm finding the parts I want later on at a cheaper price...
