Hi all,

I have a snipe set up at the moment to bid on a major item (lead time 9 seconds).

What I would like to know is if Auction sniper has ever failed anyone. I know that the servers are synchronized with eBay's servers, but I hear that sometimes they can be a second or two out. Has there ever been a total system failure with Auction Sniper? I'm just wondering if I should increase my lead time to 30 seconds or so to take account of these (rare) possibilities as I don't want to loose the item. Rather defeats the object of Auction Sniper though.

Simon.

Simon, I can recall a time when AS crashed totally and some snipes were lost. I don't think that's likely to recur since they have a lot more computers online now. It hasn't happened for quite a while. If you're really, really edgy about this auction, why not accompany your AS snipe with a manual snipe as well? You'll have to pay AS anyhow if you win, but it'll give you an added measure of assurance.
We had some problems in June and some were missed. That was right after we'd completely recoded our site to make some pretty nice improvements and allow it to grow as it has.

Then in late Sept, early Oct for 2-3 sunday nights for an hour or so we had some problems because we were running out of bandwidth.

The vast majority of snipes were all still placed in both circumstances but maybe we missed 3-4% when normally it's close to 1/10 of 1%.

I seem to remember another time when the power went out for a few hours too but I dont think we had any control over that one. That's about all I can remember for about the last 1.5+ years or so.
