I think I have a seller playing games with me. I won an auction for a low price with my snipe, and he's playing the "I mailed it, but it must have gotten lost" game. First he said he mailed it priority and then he said "metered mail" . ?? what ever that means. I went and read his feedback and that happens alot. Tons of negs for that very reason.(how does a seller stay on ebay with hundreds of negs?) MY bad, shoulda read the feedback first. But I REALLY wanted this item and was excited to have gotten a good deal. He's offered to refund, but also insinuating that everyone gets their stuff and says they don't. I believe he decided it wasn't enough $$ or sold to someone else that emailed him. Bah, lesson learned. READ THE FEEDBACK FIRST.....THEN BID OR NOT.
I'm just a (patched up) Raggedy Ann in a Barbie doll world!

Yea, I sent him an email when he was playing all dumb, and told him I've shipped hundreds of boxes and used the shipping labels with free delivery confirmation. Asked again if he shipped priority or parcel post and to send me the delivery confirmation. ....here's the converstaion....he said....

hi d****
you should have received,we sent the doll prioity mail but no insurance because it is not expensive, but we still will guarantee the money, would you like a refund and then should the doll arrive im sure you will let us know, we ship 1500 orders a month and we will encounter a few problems with mail.please let me know what would work i do have a 2 bratz dolls with diff names i can give you a deal on if that is a better fit, please advise
thanks sk

and I replied....

When were they shipped? If you sent priority mail can you please send me the tracking number? D

and he replied...

the doll was shipped by mail, it was a inexpensive item so we sent it metered mai, but i think its tme to consider a change due to new ebay members and the honer system may be outdated,im really sorry and i believe you did not receive so please tell me what i can do, also why not have me call you [email phone number and i can go over some options[
thanks sk

and so I said....
quote:
You can call if you want. I'm really dissapointed these dolls didn't come as I wanted those particular two the most. Do you have another set of them? Please send pictures if you do.
I have shipped hundreds of boxes, and all of them have delivery confirmation. Not one was lost. It's free with the usps shipping label you print yourself from click and ship, or the tool on ebay sold page. Great way to check on packages. You shipped them parcel post or priority?
Here is my phone number 8#########. Please call between 10 am and 3 pm central time if possible for best chance to catch me here.
D

within minutes I got a refund from paypal. No phone call,no offer or pictures of the other dolls he offered earlier, no further checking on the shipment. AND he says in the paypal refund," also giving you a $7.99 rebate on future purchases" .(yea, right Roll Eyes) Ok, sure I got my money back. But if this person is really shipping that much, and over 100 boxes have been lost, only an idiot would not use delivery confirmation. It's free!!
Bottom line, I got the item too cheap and he didn't want to let it go. I'll be checking to see if it gets relisted. Either that or he sold it to the bidder I outbid for more than my bid. I will ask for a copy of the post office receipt to see if he even sent it at all. How many wanna bet I never hear back from him?
I believe metered mail =
He has a postage meter and weighed it and mailed it. Florida/Post office /Looney partisan for either side/ lost 60,000 ballots, maybe your dolls are in the same place :=)

We see more and more problems with regular mail for just letters small packages.

Deleivr confirmation isn't free if you use regualr mail with a physical meter.

I take your point Mike but I've found an ability (or not) to read/write English hasn't made any difference in any of my transactions.

How about this one? I win an item and receive an invoice for postage (from USA). I pay, and then a slightly abrupt email comes back asking "where did you come up with a figure like that? this item will cost at least $XXX", and so on.

I politely (if frostily) explain the situation and he calms down and apologises, asking for considerably more money to post the package.

This I pay, I'm in no position to argue, right? But I assume from the amount I'm getting it by airmail.

After six weeks I start to enquire about where in Hades the thing has gotten to. He eventually answers and says "Guess what, the parcel just landed back on my doorstep because there wasn't enough postage for surface mail out of USA".

Surface mail?

He goes on to say he'll have to pay another $60 (US) to repost it airmail, insured, and when I get it can I consider paying him some contribution towards this? He further suggests he hopes I can still give him a positive wrap (A subtle way of reminding me he hasn't yet left feedback for me, even though I've done everything asked of me so far!)

OK, if you're still with me, would you consider making a contribution to the new postage charge? It's HIS fault he didn't get it right the first time and if it were me I wouldn't have the cheek to ask for more money.

Should I simply NOT pay and just not give him any feedback at all?

Sorry for the length of this post, but your comments would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds kinda vague... Tell him yes (you can 'consider' it and decide not to). If it's not VERY important to you, you might suggest you would accept a full refund as another option.

FYI... Seems I remember reading somewhere on eBay the seller has 30 days from payment date to get the item delivered to the buyer. Never let the 30 day limit (from auction end) expire before filing a claim with Paypal and/or eBay.

What does your experience suggest would be the best course to follow?

I’m kind of quirky - I’d rather follow my own advice and be wrong than to follow someone else’s and be wrong. Whenever I do the later, I always kick myself and say, “Why did I follow that moron’s advice?” That’s not to suggest that anyone on this forum is a moron. In fact, I’m of the opinion that ALL of us are in the upper half of the Bell Curve (any one disagree?).
Rick,

I think eBay should require sellers to quote handling and shipping fees or offer an estimate or warning this is heavy and shipping will be high, something like I charge an additional x dollars to package this. Then if they don't and they come back with some large different numbe rthe buyer should be able to bail out.

I saw a nice winter parka the other day (never worn) for $14.99. When I used the sellers shipping calculator ups ground and handling was $35.41. I emailed the seller and asked him if maybe the calculator was off and he emailed back thanks - I have fixed it and he offered buy it now with free shipping for $10 more but you still had to pay "handling fees" that weren't disclosed. The revised shipping and handling was 4 cents less. Needless to say I didn't bid on it as I didn't know the landed cost and someone bought it via Buy it now. I can understand how you may not now actual shipping but handling fees should be known if they are charging both.

Thanks all.

Rick; You're quite right of course and, by the way, I don't consider anyone on this forum (regulars that is) to be in the moronic class. I will follow my own instincts but I'd be foolish not to seek input from those who may be more experienced than I.

At the moment I intend to wait and see if the thing actually turns up before "considering" anything at all. This guy's feedback is OK and, while I may class HIM as a moron, I don't think he's deliberately ripping me off.

After long consideration I don't see why I should pay any more - as I said , I've upheld my end of the bargain. If the kit arrives and is satisfactory, I'm going to give him a positive feedback, but not actually leave any comment (can I do that?).

In situations such as this, where I receive an item satisfactorily, though after a lengthy delay and/or other controversy, I post what I consider lukewarm positive feedback:

Received item, thanks.

WHEW! The regulars better stay regular.
