Groups of bids

I already posted this on another forum... but I am really in hurry!!!
This might be a well discussed issue... but I have 3 auctions ending in one hour, so this is the ultimate resource I have!!!
Two questions, first, how long auctions should end one after the other to get this function to work?
Second, if time is too short will it bid or not on the other items? I would hope not to have a bid in case I am unsure of the win, but these aren't things you can decide!!!
