Mrs M, I regularly scan my systems with Lavasoft's Adaware - it's probably the best anti-trojan software and it's free.

Believe it or not, it was downloaded in adware when I downloaded the program and I didn't see it. There was an article in the wire and it gave three things to download to protect yourself. What it didn't tell you was to watch what might be hidden in it! Anyway, it was so inbedded, Norton couldn't get it out. Oh well, no big deal. I just wiped everything out and rebuilt it.

Do you get automatic updates from Norton?
Yes I did and it was an up to date Norton! I was really upset with the failure. I put on housecall this time. I also downloaded their trend version.
I've adopted a policy that if I don't recognize it, I don't open it.
I don't either, Rick. This came down through ADWARE when I downloaded it!
Who let the cat in the house?
Bummer.
I use Ad-aware. I guess it's the same kind of software, but without the Trojan Horse.

All I know is , norton told me that it probably was in it when it was downloaded. I have had it before. If I can explain...you know when you are downloading you get windows that pop up and ask will you accept this, etc? Well, more than likely I was not paying attention and accepted what I should not have. Don't know if that makes sense. It had nothing to do with Adware, it just happened to come in with it.
I'm guessing that ADWARE and AD-AWARE are two different things?
Good morning, Region!
I just went to the site and it actually refers to it both ways!
Here comes the Thanksgiving Day Parade!!
I have used Ad-Aware and it works beautifully!!! there are other scam ware products out there to be careful of. There are a lot of hacked databases. you should be able to download the program, disconnect from the web, run the application without an internet connection. If you have to be connected to the internet I would be ware.

Adware was NOT the problem. When I downloaded it, you know the boxes that popup and say trust this , etc? That was what happened. It popped up with it and I clicked yes without reading it carefully. Bingo! Trojan horse! Anyway I I washed everything off and that has been done for a while.
It looks like a great idea. As usual, this computer donk can get the side bar up. Fill in the space, hit the refresh now button. And, nothing happens. No brouser window with prices, no nothing. Oh well, it sure looks like it could be fun.

I found out why I could not get the second window to open. It seems to work with MS but not Netscape. I tried it with MS today and it worked, but not with my netscape. Oh well, I still prefer my netscape as I can control the cookies easier with it.
