I would find it very scary to buy anything of value more than, say, £100, on ebay, so I don't. Chacun a son gout, though. Hope it is not a Rolex whose seconds hand moves a second at a time!! Wink
You are all correct about buying a pig in a poke.It helps if you have nerves of steel that come when you have more money than brains.I bought my last rolex on ebay ,an ok price but not a steal, the seller looked solid, gave me good background as to authenticity ,and when I received it.Beautiful all real.Having learned from that experience, this seller showed none of the good signs and so I bought anyway.WHAT.Yes,scroll back to the earlier reference regarding the cash to brain ratio. But I am going through escrow ,if he doesn agree I hope I can get some advice from some of you more experienced members.I really do not want any neg feedback on my ebay.It is the only behavioral record applicable to me which would not embarass a normal person.
I have filed the information with Escrow.com,which is recommended by ebay.I pay all fees ,I have opted for the premium package $50.00 .They would have my money in hand before he ships with a system Escrow tracks so they confirm I receive item the exact item he shipped.I would have 3 days to determine only the Rolex authenticity and that the condition is as stated within the bounds of reasonableness and only those factors would keep escrow from giving him the money. He is a little hard to get to respond to my emails, but he works for a living.Time further became tight by my standards of prompt payment because somehow Paypal for the first time in over 100 transactions Elected to treat my Bank account direct transfer ,as an e-check requiring 4 days processing time so the my money would be "collected funds".Unacceptable .Discussing the escrow prior to bidding would before the auction was over would have been my preference. If sellers had to respond to every bidders specific request-chaos.Further Escrow does not even allow you to waste their time with trying to set escrow up prior to the sales end. Asking seller for Escrow after the sale is adding a term to the deal that is not in the contract. He does not have to agree to it.They said they would contact him for his agreement.I emailed him informing him I had set up the escrow. With him not qualifying for paypal protection ,no merchant standing for money transfers , he already having declined my offer to pick it up in person as too hard to "hook up".If he does not want to escrow ,I will come up with other options.Such as he takes it to a reputable dealer whom I pay,who verifies to me and accepts the watch on my behalf ,and then as a merchant accepts my charge or money transfer and then cashes out the seller.I invite suggestions ,corrections, any help whatsoever.I believe a deal is a deal, and have never broke a contract and am not about to start now.If the watch is authentic I got a great deal, suspiciously great,if it is not authentic then there has been fraud in the inducement and we do not even have a contract.Without some additional safe guard, there is no way in hell that I will, rely to my detriment and look to providence not only deliver to me a great deal ,but to protect me from theives. My seller friends never quit telling me their sorrows of non payers, but they still have their items
I have sold a lot of things on Ebay sight unseen to the buyers that cost a lot more than your watch, Born. It always amazes me that people will buy like that, but they do. I just try to make sure they get every bit they paid for and more! I have never had anyoe ask to use escrow and I would not agree, I am afraid, if they did! I just don't care for the setup. Hopefully my feedback speaks for itself. At least, it has so far!

There are so many fake Rolexes and the like out there. I would as a buyer never, ever buy one unless I had it in my hand.

Whenever I buy something that cost over a thousand, I only bid if I can go and pick it up and pay for it then. That to me is a good safeguard. If the seller said no, I would not consider it!

Gotta admit I wouldn't know a rolex watch from a roll-neck jumper!

The watch is worn round your wrist (hence "wrist watch") and the roll neck jumper is worn, well, around your neck. One is made of metal by fastidious Swiss watch makers, the other by any Tom, Dick or Harry with two knitting needles and a ball of wool. One makes you attractive to muggers, the other keeps you warm on a cold day. One can be washed by hand or in a machine, the other needs a quick wipe over with a damp cloth. Easy when you think about it! Wink
