I am a first timer with AS and have only bid on ebay items a few times in the past. I am planning on bidding on an automobile and would like some suggestions on the best way to go about it.

It seems that there may be different approaches to take based on the time of the day the auction closes. Also, there seems to be some debate over manually bidding in addition to using AS.

The item I am hoping to bid on closes on Feb-13-04 15:28:38 PST. Can anyone suggest how many seconds out I should have AS bid. Also, should I bid manually. I have a pretty fast connection at work.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Sherry, and

just my 2 cents...

Set your snipe for 7-10 seconds. Set your max and DO NOT bid early. Now, stop and think for a bit. What if you are outbid? Would you have bid more? If the answer is yes, you didn't enter your REAL max.

That's the hardest part... figuring what your max is. Snipers only get one shot to bid, so don't bid the amount you hope to win it for. Bid the amount you are willing to pay, and hope you get it for less.

And remember, it's not the last bid that wins, it's the highest.

Good Luck, and let us know how it works out for you.
