Yesterday I signed up for Auction Sniper and actually used the service for the first time on an auction. I chose to snipe with 4 secs to go for a price of EUR 100.98 (ebay.de). My bid did go through apparently, but somenone else won the item with a bid of 101.98.
Questions:
a. Am I right in assuming that I lost the auction because this guy had a higher bid in the first place? He placed his bid (say for an amount far greater than 100.98) 15 minutes before me, so my snipe went in and ebay raised his by the minimum increment of 1, thus the final auction price of 101.98. Right?
b. I chose a lead time of four secs, but I checked the bid history and saw that my snipe went in about 15 secs before the end. So, even if in this particular auction, what I am about to describe was not the case, conceivably this guy might have the time to put his bid AFTER mine, essentially making my snipe completely ineffective. Right?
c. After the auction ended, I didn't get any of the usual ebay messages (bid confirmation email, outbid email, end of auction email). Is this normal? Is it because my bid went through AS? I did however receive an email from AS saying:
Status Summary: Proxy Outbid
Your snipe could not be placed because of the reason above.
Check here to see ebay's respponse to your snipe.
What is this? My snipe DID go through, since I saw it in the auction bid history. It wasn't effective but nevertheless, a bid was placed at approximately the right time for the right amount.
Furthermore, when I clicked the link to "see ebay's response to my snipe" I was transferred to AS's site, to my snipes, where no ebay response was found whatsoever.
I am a bit confused.... Any ideas?
Venceremos!
