I like it; I like tabbed windows within the browser to move between multiple sites. Popup blocking is built-in but it doesn't block popup for things like snipe it now which I like. It doesn't work with Google Desktop. It uses standard windows keystrokes (cntrl-tab) to move between tabbed windows. The download is free, the install was painless I just did a custom install so I could pick what I wanted and then I didn't set it as the default browser.

It imports all your passwords and you can see user names and passwords for each site if you want.

Take it for a test drive; as long as you don’t set it as your default it’s harmless. (There was some discussion of problems for people that set it as the default removed it and were having trouble getting IE back as the default - Just a reg edit but more than most like.)

Ohhh - I love Firefox (browser) and Thunderbird (email). Both fantastic Mozilla products.

The thing to remember is they are very very young and are making changes and updating all the time.

I have a *few* sites that I have to resort back to IE for, mainly banking.

Firefox has alot of nifty features that work with Google and searching.

My favorite feature is in the Bookmarking (Favorites), I have one folder that I just click "Open in tabs" and all the things I like to check daily open up automatically. Ebay Watching Page, AS New Since Last Visit Page etc. All on the one browser page, but in seperate tabs - great for dial up users.

We were a bit worried about Snipe It Now working, but as mentioned, it functions perfectly.
Actually, my question should have been: "What is Firefox?" rather than "Where...?". No matter, R2 answered that in his post. It really is a moot point now as I am currently downloading Firefox as I type. I will order the guidebook & CD later. What I really like about it, is the availability of a Linux version; my next machine will be Linux.
My Hubbie used to be a Linux convert, he has ditched it though (I have no clue why).

I have Firefox set as my default and can switch between it and IE very easily - I dont see a problem at all.

Christine - Firefox *may* give you a bit of grief if you dont like changes as not *all* websites will work with it presently.

For example, I have to use IE for my banking as Firefox wont allow the transfer funds tabs to display. Also, when replying to hotmail emails, I use IE as I dont get the coloured fonts otherwise Razz Now I am sure there are plugins available to fix these little irks, but I havent bothered so far.
Lexie - If it doesn't work with all web sites at least it would still be possible for me to access them using Internet Explorer. The type of change that I'm worried about making is anything that might mess up my ability to use the computer or access web pages. I know very little about computers so it wouldn't take much to confuse me.

I was just on the University's web site and one of my professors posted that he uses Firefox. He likes it and gave a link which links to the same web page that R2 and Chatter linked to in this thread. Talk about a coincidence! (R2, here's another coincidence. You said that you visited Exeter. This professor got his first degree from the University there. He got his Ph.D. in London before moving to the US.)

Since everybody's saying good things about Firefox I think I'll download it too.
I, too, am using Firefox now. As far as it being slower than IE, it does seem to give that impression, but it may also be my imagination, being as how it is a different product. But, still, the impression IS therre. I will give it a week or so of trial; so far all of the few sites that I normally frequent work so time will tell. I also got brave and am trying Mozilla's email program: "Thunderbird".
Mozilla's website shows that they hoist a forum or two, so that may be worth checking out for help, etc.

IE comes with Windows and is HUGE. Some people don't like IE just because it's Microsoft. Other browsers have features not present in IE which they like. Unfortunately, IE strays away from the HTML standards by adding extra features of its own (coloured scroll bars for example) - these don't appear on some other browsers. When web designers exploit these features, their websites sometimes don't work on non-IE browsers but they don't care 'cos the vast majority use IE. Does that make sense?

R2
Dave - you will LOVE Thunderbird!!! It is fantastic compared to Outlook Express. It has a learning Spam Filter. The more things you tell it is spam, the less spam will annoy you.

I like the password managers on both products.

Mrs M - I use Firefox because of the *light-ness* when I am browsing, compared to IE. I can have 15 pages open and only one browser, so it doesnt slow me down so much switching between sites (damn dial up).

Also, it has alot of built in security features, IE is reknowned for having security problems.

R2 mentioned some people not liking Microsoft products, apparently we are an anti-microsoft household...dont ask - I have no clue why.....I am told its called *compromising* and is a good thing in healthy marriages Razz

Firefox is more secure - hence it doesn't work with some web pages (Active x). For a casual user it shouldn't make much difference, for me having tabbed windows in one window is the cats meow

Lexie: Actually, I tried Thunderbird; for all of about 30 minutes then blew it off. I couldn't locate some features of OE that I particularly like. However, not all is lost; I just ordered the guidebook and CD from Mozilla, betwen them and the Mozilla forums, I may find out what I want.

As for Firefox, all seems to be working well, I am able to access all of the features at my credit union's site; oh, and ebay as well. That is more important! Big Grin
Alanf51 - I'm glad to have something that's more secure because this computer uses Windows XP and I can't download the SP 2 update. So far Firefox has worked with every page I've tried including some secure ones. I'll need to try to figure out how to use the tabbed windows.

Dave - Firefox seems to be working OK here, too. For some reason it doesn't seem as slow as it did yesterday.

Cntrl-T or file-> new tab opens a new tab then pick where you want to go in the address bar, save 4 or five bookmarks you always open into a folder, right click on the folder and choose open in tabs and you open 5 sites at once.

OK, I just made a tab. It was pretty simple. Now how do I undo it? Eek

But if the word keeps spreading, it won't take long before Firefox will be being used by the masses.
I've hardly used IE at all since downloading Mozilla Firefox. Is anyone else getting a lot of messages saying there's a problem and Firefox needs to shut down? I've been getting them about once an hour and it's annoying because I have to wait for it to shut down, wait a few more minutes before it'll let me back into Firefox, then retype my passwords. Frown

MSN Just came out with a great search tool to follow behind the Google Desktop - it does more than the Google desktop by searching mapped drives, mine is indexing about 225,000 files and email now - preliminary results are great - I don't hate MSN -I just want the best tools
